Collegiate water polo has gone through a significant conference re-alignment this year without the fanfare and TV contracts that have accompanied the realignment of the major college conferences.

For the first time the Big West and the West Coast Conference will each sponsor men's water polo. Davis joins UCSB, UCI, UCSD, CSU Fullerton and Long Beach State in the Big West. This will be a tougher conference top to bottom than the Western Water Polo Association. As of now Davis is ranked #5 in the country, behind of course the Big 4 - Cal, Stanford, USC and UCLA.

#5 Ags upset by #16 San Jose State this morning, 8-7, in the first game of the Aggie Round-Up.

Hopefully they can do better this afternoon against West Valley College, a community college, and NAIA UC Merced in their second year as a team.

Hard to prepare for the No. 1 team in the nation, (who just defeated No.2 USC, 12-5, at USC) by defeating a junior college and an NAIA team in only its second season ever.

The Aggies took #1 Cal to the limit but ended up losing 11-9 in a closely fought contest. Ags had a 1 goal lead after the first quarter and were only down 1 at the half.

There's no rest for the Ags as they travel to #20 Santa Clara tomorrow for a 12 pm match before returning to Davis to host #2 UCLA at 1 pm on Sunday.

    Go Ags!

Went to the game. Age up after the first quarter. In the second with all knotted at 6 and CAL scored a heart breaker that slid in with 1 second to go to give the halftime lead 7-6.

Ags had a good number of breaks go their way but hung with CAL which last week-end kick the snot of USC 12-5 in LA. CAL was resting a superstar but the AGS went toe to toe with them. The AGS getting closer to being a top tier team. This year in the Big West the AGS will have a much more competitive league and I believe that the conference games will be very tough and they need to be ready.

In the end the AG upset crumbled with failing to convert on 2 6 on 4 power plays and in the late 3rd and 4th quarter sloppy passing. BUT they played hard and are a legit top 6 team that on any given day at the pool can pull off a win.

Ags lose today vs #2 UCLA 16-7. It is hard to be as sharp as they were on Friday against the Bears. UCLA great front-line 7 but the back-ups might be better than the Bears.

Having 3 games in 3 days will help the Aggies at the Big West tourney where that might be the road to the title and a NCAA berth.

Friday and Saturday were good as the Ags, can gear up for the first Men's Big West polo title.

Tough week-end for the Age. I am sure that the LB game is one that they feel should have been closer and perhaps gone differently. This is a good time to realize that everyone in the top 15 deserves respect otherwise you are going to lose. Looking at their schedule they have no easy wins slated. It is time to get focused for 4 quarters of intense play in every game. School starts this week and that will demand more time and energy from the players. Again I am still hopeful that the Aggies can win the first Big West Men's Conference title.

Aggies win the Big West -CC tourney., going 4-0. Very nice snap back from a poor showing last week-end. The schedule has nothing but tough games for the next 6 weeks, On this Friday they play the Beach in Long Beach which is a re-match of the tourney championship. For the Age it is a great chance to get some ownership on the Beach--Go AGS!!!

Really tough loss for the Aggies today as Irvine rallied for a 13-12 win in 2 OT:

IRVINE, Calif. — Ahead by two goals with less than two minutes to go, No. 9 UC Irvine (14-7, 3-1) rallied to force overtime, where they pulled off the upset over No. 7 UC Davis (15-8, 3-1) with a final minute goal in the second overtime period.

The loss puts the Aggies into a three-way tie for the top seed in the Big West standings, but the Anteaters will hold the tiebreaker over UC Davis and UC San Diego (13-11, 2-1). The Aggies can clinch a top two seed with a win over San Diego next weekend.

The Aggies didn't do themselves any favors when they were upset by UC San Diego 11-10 in their final match of the season. A win over the Tritons would have given the Ags the #2 seed in the Big West Tournament and a first round bye but the loss dropped them down to the #4 seed and a first round game against #5 seed Long Beach State.

Bad look for the Aggies to have 4th quarter and overtime failures in the last few tough conference games. I did not follow the games I am not sure what was lacking.
I was hoping for a regular season title for the Age and the tourney title also. Tourney gets you on a ticket to the NCAA's so lets go AGS.

The first BIG West men’s water polo tournament kicks off this Thursday at UCSD.

The Ags started off the season ranked #1 in the conference. A good start but several poor showings at a tournament plus losing 2 conference games have the Ags seeded 4th in the tourney.

    - UC Irvine is the No. 1 seed after going 4-1 in conference play and 15-8 overall. The No. 6 nationally ranked Anteaters clinched the first-ever regular season title. The second seed was secured by UC Santa Barbara. The Gauchos, Tritons, and Aggies were all knotted at 3-2 in league play when tie breaking procedures determined seeding for the championship. UC San Diego (14-12, 3-2 BW) claims the third spot and will take on six-seeded Cal State Fullerton at 4:30 p.m. to kick off the quarterfinal round. The Titans (16-14, 0-5 BW) are in their inaugural season of competition in the pool. When these two teams met in the regular season, the Tritons bested the Titans, 16-9.

The No. 4 seed UC Davis played against No. 5 seed Long Beach State. UC Davis edged the Beach 9-8 when these two sides clashed earlier this year. The advancing team of the No. 4 UC Davis seed and No. 5 Long Beach State seed matchup will take on top-seeded UC Irvine in the opening semifinal round on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 11:30 a.m. Whoever emerges victorious between No. 3 UC San Diego and No. 6 Cal State Fullerton plays No. 2 UC Santa Barbara at 1:30 p.m. to conclude semi final play.

The final quarterfinal matchup at 6 p.m. sees No. 4 seed UC Davis against No.

My take is that they have a challenging but doable road to make the championship which will then be a toss up. A possible approach to beating the Beach and to set them up well for the semi is to make some changes that will affect both games. The Beach will be tough again in So-Cal, I for one believe that Norcal teams are still at a disadvantage when it comes to playing So -Cal teams in So-Cal. The Ag players need to be in a grind mode and be prepared for 4 full quarters. Several of their key losses occurred with 4 quarter and OT melt downs. Keeping a good rotation of field players and perhaps subbing their star goalie to give a longer half-time could be used to help the team for the final push or OT. Additionally, the top seeded Anteaters will be watching the game and a new rotation including the goalie will give them a lot to think about. Many polo players prepare for a specific goalie and develop scenarios of how they will shoot in certain situations. Showing a back up goalie might give the Anteaters something to think about. Any new wrinkles on 6-5 even if they are not used in the semi will give the Eaters something to mull on.

Many of the Aggie players have been on conference winning tourney teams and I think this will be an edge when they face UCI. Confidence and the willingness and ability to grind can be the Aggies edge. IT would be a great feather in the Aggies cap to win the first Big West mens waterpolo conference title

The Aggies won a thriller today beating Long Beach 11-10 in sudden death and will move on to play the #1 seed Irvine tomorrow at 11:30 am in the first semi-final game. The score was tied 9 all at the end of regulation and 10 all after the 2 OT's before going to sudden death. Will Nomura scored the winning shot on a power play after an Irvine exclusion.

Aggies live to fight another day. Watching the game, I felt as if the officials called the game different against the AGS resulting in them having 14 exclusions to Long Beaches 8. An extra 6 power players puts a tremendous pressure on the goalie and the defense.

The Age have enough talent on this team to win the next 2 and advance to the NCAA tourney. What I felt was not good for the Aggies in this game. was the offense play First the flow in setting up the front court was sloppy and better passing can really help them tomorrow. This lack of flow resulted in poor shot selection ( bad angles) and the shot poor shot execution. I felt as if the AGS did not have a game plan in how to beat the goal.

I think the defense was good even when the officials gave the Beach an extra 6 power plays.

I do NOT know enough about UCI to make a prediction, but the Aggies have strong individuals. IF the Ads beat UCI they win the tourney. Tough turn around with an 11:30 am start. GO AGS!!!

Ouch--Ags lose in the semi to the #1 seed UCI 11-10.

Again the Ags let this one slip away, as they were up 10-8 at the 5+ minute mark in the 4th. UCI comes back and strings 3 goals to win in regulation.

It is good to have the Big West Conference sponsor Men's polo. The parity inside the conference is super and most of the league games were one goal games.

Ags have a great coach and talent, looking forward to next year and a chance for them to win the conference crown.
