ML, don't dig deeper than the first paragraph. The Challenge Series is to promote games that are currently on the schedule and to try and entice Big Sky/MVFC teams to schedule future games. Think of it as something similar to what we see in college hoops with the ACC/SEC Challenge.
Well if it leads us to eventually getting more FCS opponents for OoC games then that's a plus in my book.
I understand if there's a financial necessity to fbs games but if they can keep it down to a MW school then one of those and two fcs opponents would make for a challenging but still manageable slate.
I went to a game vs Winston-Salem State like the week after they announced they weren't moving up to FCS. The Ags crushed them big time, though i don't remember the score.
it was 45-14, but we were up 38-0 at the half. they weren't very good, and they turned the ball over a ton. one thing that i thought was interesting was the WS had a 'state trooper' on their sidelines, like you see in a SEC game surrounding their coaches. not sure what they were expecting from our 'rabid' fanbase.
Yes, I remember that. It was so strange. On a similar but different note, when we lost to South Alabama, that was a really different experience. There were all the tailgaters and rabid fans you'd see at a game in the south.
i also remember driving out of the stadium onto Hutchinson and they had a Big Rig with their colors/emblem for their equipment. our kids were balancing their shoulder pads/helmets while riding their bikes from Hickey. they do things a little different down there.
some of their taligaters stopped by 6th tent to talk about the game. they had studied film and knew more about our players than we did. a memorable quote from one of them 'y'all got some good players but you need some more brothers.'
