there are a bunch of good punters in this league, but Whalen does thinks that don’t always jump off the stat sheet, negating the Weber stud returner. He’s been great

Whelan is a stud and deserves all accolades given. However, excellent teams tend to brag about their kickoffs, not punts.

One can argue that a great punter can lead to more kickoffs because he consistently flips the field position.

in the Weber game a Davis punt led to a touchdown due to a turnover by the Weber QB throwing from the back line of the end zone with a 350lb lineman in his chest.
However, perhaps it’s just my biased eyes but we seem to allow first downs whenever we have them pinned deep at a vey high percentage. So we don’t get great field position as much as one might think.

Reminds me of the time we were down by a score with time running out. 4th down around the 50 and Bob Biggs decides to punt. We were crying for them to go for it. We punt, the receiver fumbles on the 5 and we score to win. Can’t remember the opponent.

He's pretty good at kickoffs, too
