The MEAC is comprised of mostly HBCU schools and is experiencing problems in addition to the effects of the pandemic, or perhaps as a side effect of the economic issues brought on by the pandemic. A few teams have recently left the conference other conferences, and I think a couple are moving back to D-II.
I would guess a spring season might be shortened and maybe no playoffs if every conference is doing their own thing. Do you think teams take it serious or use it as development games to try out some young guys for the fall?
Playoffs seem like they wouldn’t be part of spring season. I think coaches would go for it like normal. Maybe rely on the seniors since you don’t have to worry about their health come fall
Why not play this fall, test, test, test... and any older coaches or players who are fearful can redshirt.
The mortality rate of the CCP Covid19 is below the regular flu - for those under 70 years of age - and players living with young teammates are safer than living in a multi generational house. (See Sweden, Germany, Iceland.)
If all Fall sports are cancelled, furlough 75% of ICA staff?
SWAC has postponed all fall sports until the spring. They plan on having a 7 game season. 6 conference games with the option of scheduling a non-conference game as well. They are the only conference to announce a spring season thus far but I wonder if they see other conferences following suit, thus allowing for one OOC game. Big Sky football kickoff is later this week. I wonder if we are going to hear more bad news.
N.C. Central used to be D2 and only moved up to the MEAC a couple years ago. And of course we remember Bethune-Cookman in the D2 playoffs back in 1977.
