Maybe it’s from Re-watching the ‘country music’ series on PBS (if you haven’t, watch it even if that’s not your genre), but my mental image was Porter Waggoner with that blonde pompadour. Rhinestone football jersey.
I dig it when we are loaded with talented receivers and the post game stats show a bunch of guys who made completions. Really puts pressure on opposing Ds.
Dark clouds on the horizon. Gov. Newsom strongly hints that Fall college sports may have to be cancelled as well. Cites “boomerang” effect in Asia when restrictions were relaxed. Dittto NFL. Whoever said we were in “uncharted territory” here was understating the problem. Sports may never be the same again.
Ugh. FWIW, we're 5 months away & three major projections (estimates) have been substantially wrong. Fauci & the CDC were originally estimating 200,000 to 2 Million deaths.
Taiwan really nailed it, shutting off travel from China 2 weeks before Chinese New Year's, no cruise ships, masks, etc. Only 300 infections & 5 deaths?
common sense: A geographical area will have multiple strains of the virus unless they’ve been isolated. Natural selection will favor less lethal and more infective strains. The extremely lethal strains will tend to spread less due to host dying and/ or attracting medical isolation, while mild symptom strains will spread more easily to more people. Eventually this will be a mild disease that most people have had.
It’s about time someone reports how far this virus has penetrated a population by doing the antibody tests on a random sample. To date we don’t seem to know if .5% or 50% of the population of
any country has been infected. If that isn’t known how can anyone predict what kind of isolation will be necessary in the fall?
Excellent points. I would love to see if I have covid19 titer. I had a terrible flu late December that was different than any flu Ive ever had. The symptoms matched those listed for coronavirus. Ive seen the “accepted” timeline for this virus in the US, but do we really know?
Since I’m suffering corona overload, how about moving virus talk to off topics. Maybe we get get sports talk as a distraction. They have a best basketball moments final four on MBB Instagram. Maybe we can start a ‘favorite Aggie stadium’ thread as a healthy distraction? And a ‘favorite Les-era’ memory in MBB ? I’ll start tomorrow
DrMike everyone feels your pain. I don't mean this at all as disrespectful, but Move this to another site if you want. But, we are all witnessing the never to be seen before effects of a pandemic on international sports. We have seen the Olympics move with college spring sports as well. So to deny or ignore this because you are “overloaded” is not really helpful. Much better to be prepared for a new time in college sports. Like: football games in empty stadiums on HBO. Not all that bad given the times we are now living in. Also, The new recruits must be terrified with what is happenIng to their athletic careers, so much sympathies there as well. But, not the time for sugarcoating.
I didnt say sugarcoat or ignore, put it in off topics or write specifics about how it is effecting a sport (like how giving an entire football program another year of eligibility will effect the next 4 recruiting cycles).
If there is news of new recruits, it would be nice to see it in this thread. If there is a COVID thread I’ll chose to look there or not.
I'm with Dr. Mike on this (for what my opinion may be worth.) In the first place this is a fan site for Aggie fans. As I noted earlier, 'a good rule of thumb is don't talk religion or politics.'
I think discussion of the pandemic would be better held on a dedicated thread (or threads?) in the OT Board area:
1. We can usually talk about our common interest, the Aggies, without bristling feathers over views that cross the line into politics, etc.
2. If people want to talk about the pandemic, it is hard to do that here as there are threads in probably each of the sports sub-categories that have dipped into that. Better to put them all in one place. I would think the "OT Board" is a good place for that.
This pandemic will probably be the major event of most of our lives...as our parents or grandparents had WWII. I don't want to down play it, and I think it is appropriate it...but an OT Board is a better place than a football, basketball, baseball or Other Sport sub-board.
Not sure about “the last great,” but I was really impressed with how Nick Eaton performed the last half of the season when he was blitzing from both ends. Speed and athleticism.
