The Aggie women kick off today's double header in the Pavilion at 2:30 pm against UC Riverside. The Ags can wrap up their 4th straight Big West Conference title with a win over the Highlanders and will be saying goodbye to three outstanding seniors as well: Nina Bessolo, Sophia Song and Katie O'Toole.
The Highlanders are currently occupying the bottom of the standings but one of their wins was over the Aggies 75-70 back on January 9th which should remind everyone that there are no "gimme's" in the conference.
The Aggie men take on Long Beach State at 5 pm in the second game of today's DH. Fans can attend both games for the price of one ticket.
Live stream from Big West TV and the radio PxP by Greg Wong at 2:30 pm on KDVS 90.3 FM.
ESPN says Fullerton won, so the Aggies are officially the sole conference champs with a three game lead over Fullerton and Hawaii and two games to go.
Here's more of an answer to DrMike's question about the women's record in doubleheaders:
"The Aggies' win over UC Riverside gave UC Davis a clean sweep in its half of home doubleheaders this season, winning its last 18 such games dating back to a loss to North Dakota State during the 2015-16 season, and improving to 31-4 in home doubleheaders during the program's Division I era -- including 20-2 against Big West opponents."
The first rounds will be held in the evenings of March 10 & 11 at the Pyramid at Long Beach State. Then there's a day off while the men play at the Honda Center. The women will play at the Honda Center on the 13th & 14th.
It's a fun trip down to watch the Big West Championships. We've done it multiple years. But, alas, not this year. The staff at the Honda Center are first rate. Disneyland isn't that far away if you fill up on basketball.
The drive from the area around the Honda Center to watch the women play in the evenings for the first few days is UGLY since it's at drive time.
Watching the women come back against Hawai'i last year was an amazing experience.
This year both men's and women's big west tournaments will be incredibly competitive (except for those who have to play UC Irvine).
