I think the Aggies would've been happy to kneel out the game after his first run, but Portland took a timeout, so they ran one more play and he scored on it.
Jake: 27-38 for 383 yds 4 TD's and 1 INT
Babb II: 10 receptions for 183 yds and 3 TD's
Vaughn: 5 receptions for 121 and 1 TD
Gilliam: 29 carries for 242 yards and 2 TD's...including a 75 yd TD run
Major facepalm for me .. I am in Portland on vacation, even followed the game on my phone. When it was over I realized I was only a couple miles away! Would've been great to see a good win away out of state.
Great win! Did it seem like the defense tweaked anything during bye week?
Though giving up 28 points and a fair amount of yards, I think the defense did a good job of containing things. Sacked AleXander 4 times and put a lot of pressure on him. He is Tarkenton-like and hard to contain. Mostly shut down their run game.
Gilliam's 242 yards rushing is the 5th most yards in a game in Aggie history.
Defensively, Fr LB Nick Eaton had a monster game: 8 tackles, 2 TFL, 2 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. Also, Sr Brandon Jamison had 5 tackles, 2 TFL and 2 sacks and Fr Josiah Suani had 4 tackles and 2 TFL.
I think I’m thawed out from the game. What a weird setting for college football. Bleachers on one side, home team opposite with a soccer field behind them, rinky-dink scoreboard (‘Hillsboro Rec Department’) with no video, and piped in music (no band, few students) every non-play second. Environment ripe for a letdown.
So good outing. Defense shut down their running game, controlled the QB scrambling for the most part, and held QB to 50% passing. They benefited from couple bad non-call (hold on Eaton on a long jump ball catch before TD ,and intentional grounding that would have stopped TD drive) else it wouldn’t have been close in second half. Offense was crisp beside a couple dropped big gain passes.
Can we keep it rolling? Two big challenges await. 7-5 would be huge (and leave us rueing the North Dakota game)
Woke up to gray wet weather. Shocking! First stop of the day -> fisherman’s superstore for warmer jackets!
