Sounds legit
“There was no doubt that when yards were on the line, the Crushers were running behind Luis Arroyo,” said head coach Dylan Leach. “In addition, Luis was an absolute beast at nose guard on the defensive line. His ability to read the play from a flex position is the best I have had in my 19-year coaching career, and that led him to the play on a regular basis. Luis also commanded double teams regularly, which allowed our linebackers to excel.”
Just goes to show how good you have to be to get a scholarship
This year it seemed that during the second signing period that they were major competition. They offer two of the three items in Davis’ sales pitch, good football and stay in California.
A friend went to a game there a few years back and was in the ticket line. Two big guys showed up behind him and he said “you guys must have played some ball back in the day.” They replied “no, we just got out of prison and were meeting some of our old friends here at the game”. Well, it was better than them going to a shooting range for fun, but friend was not real comfortable with these guys around. He was not a Fresno fan either.
I am now starting to feel sorry for Fresno. Not for the Bulldog Gang, but for getting Tumey. What is it with this guy? He has never done anything of any distinction for anyone? I recall when the UC was politically pressured to build a new campus in the San Joaquin Valley. The Bee wanted Fresno. UC said no way with that one. We got UC Merced which is actually very good. Locals say: do not go out at night in the downtown Fresno area. They do not care about any statues which have no protective features. So Tumey in Fresno? Not going to happen. Piedmont a lot nicer.
Yes. Sean Harlston is a very impressive person. Athlete or not. But I will say I agree with him that Compton is a very interesting and very misunderstood city. My wife and I hired a young UC Davis student from Compton as a business assistant when we were still in Davis in the 1990s. She was Hispanic and from a big family. Her home was under a freeway overpass. Both parents were Mexican immigrant factory workers in LA. Big brother was a gangbanger who lived in the garage because his parents threw him out. Marisol was a straight A student out of Compton HS. She chose UCD because it was clean and safe (she was accepted by UCB as well). Younger sister was a 1600SAT kid who was the notable subject of a fierce scholarship battle between Stanford and Princeton as to who could actually get her. I believe she chose Princeton. Sean Harlston is very insightfully correct: Compton CA is actually a very good town and with great people, welcome to Sean, you made the right choice with UC Davis. I assume he is a WR?
