The Aggies will battle to stay in first place in the Big West today at 2 pm when the second place Matadors of Cal State Northridge visit the Pavilion. The Ags were convincing in defeating the Matadors 60-49 on January 24th in Northridge and lead the all-time series 25-16.
The two best players in the Big West, Morgan Bertsch and Channon Fluker, will be set for a battle of the posts. Fluker, who is strong and very physical, is coming off a 16 point 11 rebounds outing in the Matodors' 74-44 drubbing of Fullerton last Thursday. The Aggies have defended Fluker well in the past few meetings. I expect to see the Ags mix things up offensively by using Bertsch at both the high and low posts today as the Aggies will try to stretch the floor on offense and force Fluker to defend Bertsch away from the basket at times.
The refs were calling a very tight game today, especially against the Ags (according to KDVS guy) but that’s what happens in a game against a very physical and potentially intimidating team like CSUN. The blocking foul on Morgan by Flucker which put her on the deck was a bit suspect, but whatever and glad she wasn’t hurt. Overall, very proud of the Lady Ags tonight.
This was the first time I was able to get to the game since the championships started rolling in. The women play some very entertaining basketball when they have momentum. Third quarter was hard to watch, though I agree that seemed to be an anomaly born from picky officiating and a physical opponent
