UC Davis health is putting in 20M, campus kicking in a sizable amount (academic tie-in of a state of the arts sports medicine facility), the rest donors and other sponsors. Huge deal
Sounds great. What exactly is a performance center? Well, I guess will know very soon. Definitely impressive that a sports medicine component is included.
I agree with the DR.Mike that this was accomplished with a lot of imagination in terms of where the money had to come from. Donors surely were very BIG, but to have the administration kick in academic money so they could use the center for undergraduate classes as well was very good thinking. UC Davis Medical School contributed with a new and very expanded Sports Medicane Program was great; again, kicking in academic money. And finally, UC Davis Health realizing that it had to increase its presence on the campus and in Davis, both growing and very health conscious constituents that have been somewhat ignored in the past was great thinking. I don’t know who gets the credit for such a great collaboration of efforts from such diverse sources.
It’s interesting, Santa Clara just announced a similar facility. There’s is obviously more basketball oriented because they no longer play football. It looks pretty impressive....https://www.santaclarabroncos.com/general/2018-19/releases/20181113iei4u9
Hats off to Bruce Edwards kick starting it with biggest donation in campus history. Hats off to Blue and May for making it happen. Not sure how UC med got involved, but it’s the perfect tie in. New lockers, coaches offices, meeting rooms, practice field, weight room and the academic facilities...,,,,wow. This news is making waves in FCS.
I thought we had the majority of funding, but here is this from the Enterprise:
"The project will break ground in early 2019, starting with construction of the practice field. Construction will begin on the Performance Center buildings upon completion of fundraising."
You can couple this with a bridge replacement over Putah Creek at La Rue on the south side near Mrak/Mondavi, and a sizable traffic/signal/road upgrade on the La Rue / Hutchison corner. My company won the contract a few weeks ago. Starting in January, confirmed.
