    Vandals forum is unhappy.

eGriz is amused... I get the feeling that noone much liked Idaho.

Base on commentary at eGriz, I think the conference will be taking Davis seriously this year.

So we were up 44-7, and we had areas for improvement.

Have we ever taken a large contingent to Montana or EWU? Does a sizable Aggie Band ever go? ... I know the band was legendary in the past, but then things got complicated.

I think it was part regional rivalry and and also frustration that Idaho thought they could drop down and immediately be competitive in the FCS.

In that regard having Davis instead of Montana/EWU beat them was particularly gratifying -- just 2/3 years ago Idaho would have been a runaway favorite in a matchup against the Ags.

Also, Hawk is now 8-7 with the Ags and has more wins than the last three years under Gould combined

I just told my wife I am seriously thinking about going to the EwU game. If it boils down to the league championship game I’ll be there

I have DirecTV which requires an upgrade over whatever package I have to get eleven sports. So, when I downloaded the Pluto App on Apple TV the channel for the Davis was not there. I saw almost every other Big Sky team but ours. Had to watch on the computer which was tough to find as the regular link was not working like some others experienced.

I actually take that back, I watched San Diego on Pluto TV and then Big Sky Streaming from phone to Apple TV for Idaho

I've been using the Pluto app on Fire Stick. I use the TuneIn app on my phone to get the 1140 audio feed and mute the TV if the announcers suck like they did this week.

In my era the Band-uh mustered about 50 to every away football game (every away basketball game too at one point), typically drove ourselves and slept on whatever gym floor we could for free. Last few years travel has been limited to CP, Suck State, and Anaheim, but they have a new band director so maybe some new hope.

My experience going to EWU and Montana some years ago was that EWU was more pleasant to visit, kind of same vibe as our home games. Montana has a more intense gameday experience for sure, though I was unimpressed with the quality of their fans. I remember getting spit at - and it wasn't drunk frat boys. It was sober middle age guys in dad jeans and New Balances doing it with their 9 year old sons. At that time, very few Aggie fans went to either except a few players parents.

I’d really like to see a game in Missoula some day. A colleague of mine said a friend of his said it was the beast atmosphere he had seen even over big ACC or other big-time venues. I don’t doubt the questionable sportsmanship you saw. I have never liked Hauck and I think he was at the helm with all of those issues and coverups they have had in the past (they were the 1AA equivalent to Tennessee).

This is probably the best chance for the Ags to pull out a win in Missoula . They came close with Denham and company as I recall.

Way back in the day we (Banduh) went to All away games both football and basketball but of course most all games were in CA and many in NorCal. Of course that was the late 70’s. We did not play Montana then.

Going to Arcata and Chico no joke! Many times I recall going to venues early, and first thing they asked. Is your band coming?

I have heard several hard core football fans say Montana is the best game day experience in all of college football. Supposedly insane tailgate spreads.

No doubt. Leading up to a game every restaurant server and grocery store clerk is wearing Montana gear and pretty much everything came to a standstill on game day. Lot of good smelling food going on at the pregame, so yeah, it probably is the envy of college football in terms of the city supporting the team. Kind of reminds me of a smaller version of Gainesville, FL. Keep in mind that Missoula is about the size of Davis, but happens to be the second largest city in the state with many miles of nothing between it any literally anything.

If any of you decide to go to the EWU game let me know. Cheney is 90 minutes from Moscow and I try to make it to the Aggie games. That definitely wasn't Staben posting on the Vandal fan site. He is roundly despised by most of the posters because of his decision to step down.

For those of you at the game, how did Petrino look at QB?
  • DrMike

Petrino is below average. Most of his yards were racked up late in the game vs. our 2's and 3's. I never felt threatened by him. I was more concerned with the big running back who seemed on the verge of breaking off some big runs. I thought it we controlled him, and made Petrino pass, the defense would have a feast.

We also, fortunately, recovered 2 of our own fumbles, and an INT was called back due to a penalty.

That seems optimistic to me. Maybe I don't pay enough attention to football east of the Rockies, but to my mind, Davis needs to beat the historic powers in the BSC before people get all excited. I dunno. Maybe I'm just a pessimist based on the Gould era...ha. Had a text conversation with a friend during the game this week trying to wrap my head around being legitimately good again vs. playing bad teams.

Looking forward to the rest of the season, for sure!

, thanks. The RB is a good player. I was really surprised we won so easily. I was with a group of friends staying in cabins along the St. Joe River in Idaho and had to walk to the far end of the compound for a wifi connection. I'm usually pessimistic but in the fourth quarter I decided I couldn't jinx us and called the game for us. I was looking at this site as well as the Vandal site in between ESPN updates, and Vandal fans were headed for the ledge. It looks like the wheels have fallen off.

Honestly, they were pretty awful. Their QB looked like a high school kid, and we shut them down other than two (we are up big) drives. They benefited from a couple horrible calls to keep drives moving. Not a true test of our conference, but they got it done. I will say, they did a pretty good job on Preece and Doss...we need to find more ways to get them open.

From everything I’ve heard Montana has a great football atmosphere but I can’t imagine a better collegiate atmosphere and game experience than my wife and I had Saturday in Ann Arbor for the Nebraska @ Michigan game. You could just feel the energy and interest everywhere you went in town and on the campus. Everyone was decked out in UM gear. The M Den is like a 2 story department store for Michigan apparel. Everything you can think of is branded from common hats and t-shirts to socks, doggy coats and bikinis and the place was packed everyday we went by it.

The game day experience was the best I’ve ever had. By 8 in the morning the campus and downtown area was alive and energized for the 12 noon kickoff. As we walked to the Big House, the frats and sororities we’re pumping music and the parties were in full swing. The tailgate area was similar to what you would see in Green Bay for a Packers game. The Michigan Marching Band Drum Line was putting on an awesome display. Entry into the Big House was easy and quick even though there were over 111,000 in attendance. No alcohol is served in the stadium though and highy armed security is very present.

The seating is very tight so everyone is wedged in shoulder to shoulder. The pre-game activities were awesome: video clips about the great history of Michigan football with footage of former great players and coaches. The video about the university proudly proclaims at the end, “We are the greatest university in the world,” and the crowd just roared. The Michigan Marching Band (400 strong) made a grand, precision entrance and launched into “Hail to the Victors” and everyone sang along with rhythmic clapping and orchestrated fist pumps. Two skydivers jumped into the field: one with the American flag and another with the UM flag. The whole place heartily sang the National Anthem after they introduced some honorary veterans of the Korean War. It was Maize Day and the stadium was a sea of yellow and the fans know all the cheers and wholeheartedly participate. There is just so much tradition.

The Michigan Marching Band halftime performance was fantastic with precision marching, amazing formations and creative stepping. Incredible precision! The Drum Line performed during one of the tv time outs and the band performed for about 20 minutes after the game. Then lots of fans follow them through the streets to their facility with a motorcycle police escort with the officers wearing stripped helmets like the football team helmets.

We just had a blast. I’d pay an arm and a leg to attend a game against Ohio State in the Big House. If anyone ever gets a chance to attend a Michigan game, just do it!

OK, sounds good. I thought their other QB threw a better ball then Petrino. Appaently he was hurt and as a result didnt return. Petrino though was a decent scrambler. I was surprised they didnt go back to an option type offense or more bootlegs. They will fair better against PSU.

Michigan marching band has always been excellent. Fun to watch and listen to Ohio State too with their high-stepping. Don’t know if Ohio State is still all brass. I’d also like to see a game in Madison. Midwest bands and football seem to have the best/longest traditions.
