Did anyone else notice that the official Athletics recap of today's game announces each football player's major when he is mentioned? Interestingly, this new practice seems unique to Football. Has Hawkins written all over it. We should be doing this for every student athlete in every sport.

    Excerpts (emphasis added):

"Pinned next to its end zone, a PSU punt attempt was thwarted by Ryan Parenteau -- a junior defensive back majoring in aerospace engineering -- who was able to break through the line and get his hand on Hayden Cowan's kick. With a live ball now bouncing freely, and no Viking even remotely closely to it, Darryl Graham (international relations) recovered the blocked kick and sprinted untouched into the end zone."

"On its penultimate drive of the half, UC Davis pushed its 10-point advantage to 17 thanks to a four-play drive that ended with Jake Maier (economics) finding Aaron Moore (undeclared) for his first touchdown as an Aggie. Even though the pass covered a handful of yards, it was Moore's juke that froze two Vikings in place, and opened a seam that allowed him to sprint for another six points."

It's really good to see this and, like you said, this should be standard format for all recaps for every sport. Great academics and true student/athletes is an integral part of Aggie Pride and is a great recruiting tool also.

I flipped over to the KHTK audio feed during halftime where they were interviewing Blue. He basically said athletics is doubling down on academics and a greater part of the team experience will be professional internships, mentoring, resume writing, etc. That GPA and graduation rate mean nothing unless they lead to meaningful jobs or grad school opportunities. I get the sense he won't stand for a whole team getting A's in "undeclared".

Toward the end of the game when there was little football left to discuss, the announcers on the video feed were very complimentary to UCD academics and the brain trust of coaches to come out of the program.

I love this. As a non-athlete it was really fun seeing the players in classes, studying hard, or involved in student clubs like the rest of us. Not sure what they do at J Street Tech, but we clearly do it right.
