My wife and I are going to be in Paris for the month of October and ESPN+ is blocked outside of the USA and, with the 9 hour time difference, I won't be able to listen to the live radio broadcast either. So I hope I'll be able to watch full game replays on YouTube like this one. We'll be back in time for the Idaho State game. Go Ags!

Be careful, and do tell us if Paris has changed as much as some say.

Thanks. I've never been to Paris before so I won't know if it has changed. My wife was there many years ago so she might notice if things are different.

Many sources say crime has increased across Western Europe the past 10-15 years. London has soaring knife crimes, and cell phone thefts, often by criminals snatching cell phones from their motorcycle.

Paris: "In 2023, the number of victims of sexual violence was more than double that of 2016"

I just dropped my son off in London last month for college. It was amazing. Zero knifings while I was there. Usually when a post starts with, "People are saying" or "Many sources say," I ignore them...

Western Europe has issues, how big they are considered is subjective.

I spent ten weeks in Europe in 2000. A few snippets:

    - I stopped a North African man who manhandled an African woman in front of Gare du Nord train station by alerting police while locals did nothing.
    - an African man was manhandling a drunk Parisian woman in a night club in the Republique area. I don't speak French, so had limited insight. The patrons (mostly White) ignored it, a behavior Americans wouldn't tolerate.
    - late at night in Paris, several young Parisians (White) were arguing outside, cursing, and repeatedly spitting at each other from a distance. Odd.
    - I witnessed a large middle eastern bar manager and crew in the République midday drag out a feeble, argumentative, drunk Parisian man outside. Said manager returned a few minutes later, released a weighted piece, knuckles red, and dipped his hand in ice. He must have been pulverized. A travesty. I finished my beer and departed.

I was in Paris last year for the para-games. It was wonderful. Only great interactions with everyone. Sure that the city was cleaned up, but the Parisians that were in the city. and outside the city had great attitudes. Went to several events where the city brought thousands of school children 14 -8 years olds to events. They brought a huge positive amount of energy. It was such a win-win the athletes inspired the crowd and the crowd inspired the athletes. A huge highlight of attending sporting events. I hope your trip is wonderful like mine.

For any concerned about security in Europe, may I recommend Epcot Center. No muggings, just drunk fat women on rented scooters who may run over your foot racing to a midafternoon Wilson Phillips concert. France pavilion is perhaps on point with rude servers who smell like an ashtray. Food is better in Italy. Beer is better in Germany, and Norway is where they hide the eye-candy.

Europe is great, I love it. A friend went recently and had no issues.

But don't be naive. Western Europe has had substantial changes, leading some officials, as one example, to propose banning knives.

BTW, the above Regents Park area looks posh, reportedly a prestigious and affluent residential neighborhood.

France = 110 rapes per day, 40,000 per year, 58% minors.

1,871 rapes per day in America.
Though, US population is 5x France. I'm no mathematician (and please correct me if I messed this up), that's still 3x more rapes per day per capita than France. Where are women less safe?

I feel comparative stats are important.

"In 2023, there were 127,216 reported rape cases in the United States."

    https://www.statista.com/statistics/191137/reported-forcible-rape-cases-in-the-usa-since-1990/

Your commentary omits the 500% to 800% increase in reported rapes in Europe (depending on the country) the past three decades. What caused this?

Why the preponderance of minors being raped?

I don't have the answer to this, but I'm not going to start theorizing about "black and brown people" (often masked as "immigration" or "the left") being the cause.....which seems to be an undertone in all your posts...please correct me if I'm wrong.

My concern is for young girls and teenagers being brutalized, often gang r*ped, tortured and pimped, on a mass scale. I first read about this in 2000, and it's now spread throughout western Europe. Sweden was one of the first countries hit hard. I don't care who commits the crime, but I won't ignore it, either, for political reasons.

The Sikh community (i.e. dark brown) have educated some of their children about the risks, and some families have flown their daughters to other countries for their own safety.

We've been in Paris for a week now and we've fallen in love with this great city already. We have an apartment in an area that's located between the Le Marias and Le Halles arrondissements.

As a senior, American couple, we are in a category that would be prime targets for scammers or thugs but we haven't felt unsafe anywhere we have gone in the city. We have been walking at all times of the day in our neighborhood, the Latin Quarter and along the Seine including as late as 10:30 at night walking back from dinner. We have also walked in some of the most popular tourist sites in the city including visiting Notre Dame, the Eiffel Tower and the Luxor Obelisk at the Place de la Concorde which are full of tourists and we have not had any problems at all. We have also found the people to be very kind and helpful and many speak English very well. Google translate is our friend when we need it too.

The streets are bustling with people sitting outside in cafes eating, drinking and chatting with friends and shopping in the hundreds of small, interesting shops and we have only seen one or two homeless and/or mentally ill people on the streets...no tents, no broken down camper vans, no garbage, no panhandling...nothing even remotely similar to what we encounter in Sacramento or San Francisco.

We have also taken the metro quite a bit and find it easy to navigate. It was extremely crowded yesterday on the lines we took but we did just fine. At one stop, my wife was able to get on the train and I couldn't but we knew where we were going and I got on the next train and met her 3 stops down the line.

So, our experience so far, has been great and we feel very safe in Paris. We are experienced travelers though and we know how to take common sense precautions to protect ourselves and our belongings when we are out and about in densely populated tourist areas and on public transportation when it is packed with people. You just have to be smart and aware of your surroundings but you don't need to been fearful. We try to just blend in as much as possible, relax and enjoy experiencing a new city and culture.

Paris is certainly one of the most amazing cities in the world that we have visited and we're excited that we have 3 more weeks here.

Terrific! I loved the Musée d'Orsay, really amazing. I agree, experience and wits... after traveling in Europe I've kept the custom of putting my wallet in my front pocket. The cheese thete was amazing... not pasteurized?

I have a slim travel wallet that has RFID protection and I keep it in the interior pocket on my jacket or in my front pocket when not wearing my jacket. I do the same with my phone in crowded public places like the metro. My wife has a cross body, black travel purse that's pretty much theft proof but still stylish enough. We go to the Musée de l'Orangerie and the d'Orsay next week . We visited the Musée de Arts et Metiers a couple of days ago in it was fascinating especially if you like the history of science and engineering. There are so many wonderful museums here!
