feel a little low; however, student turnout was low and visitor sections were pretty empty.
Many people (like Finn and me standing on the home 50 yd line). A couple hundred that would otherwise be in the grass.
Interesting moment from the game: near the end one of our camera/media guys had an L shaped piece of binder paper and walked down onto the field, only for an ISU coach/trainer to grab the paper, rip it up, and push our dude around. Not sure how to feel about bringing a literal L to the other team but it was ridiculous seeing the ISU staff member who was probably in his 40s physically push someone.
I was in the same boat considering 99% of their players were really chill. I will say the guys who took the L onto the field proceeded to joke around with SD players asking them to come to their party after so it seems like at least the players and media dudes were okay in the end haha
This one is on the students. BUT he knows what it’s like at UC..he lived it.
His classmates cared a lot about finals. And they start Monday. Like LeFan said, this is the way it is in the UC system. Cal and UCLA deal with the same student attendance issues.
Yeah I agree with Plough completely considering the size of our student body, but i do have to add an * to the whole thing considering it was the weekend before finals. I have went to every game with 5-8 friends and this week only had 1.
I couldn't agree more with Plough. I'm glad he spoke his mind. We had a good crowd for the basketball game against Santa Barbara at 5 pm and, surprisingly, there was a good turnout of students although they sit quietly for the most part.
I totally understand Coach Plough’s statement. Not even 10% of the student body shows. But we are a UC and the students come here for an education. Finals are important. We were sitting in Sec 121 today and there were lots of empty seats.
Those there were vocally supporting the team. Especially in the second half and fourth quarter. I know the Defense appreciated it when they came off the field after their stops. Great game all around.
Game day experience was good. Nice to see the band in full force. Plenty of food selections and drink. Perplexed why the merchandise stand wasn’t open on the West side. Stopped off at the Woodland Costco today and they have “Special Event NCAA Men’s hoodies and long sleeved shirts.”
I picked up a hoodie that has “UC DAVIS” with the CA logo below.
Make no bones about it…..student support sucks and I hate it. But I also get it.
The city of Davis population is 60k + right? That alone should be enough to fill the place with 15k.
Football culture in CA is the issue. He needs to be careful to not attack the wrong folks, but I understand because I share the same frustrations (for the past 20 years)
I 100% agree with coach.. and not only cuz I'm the same exact age as him. It's frustrating to bring a group of enthusiastic folks to a game, who know how to make noise at a home game, only to be looked at like we're crazy for being as enthusiastic as we are
