Love these new uniforms. Gonna be honest, wasn't a huge fan of the ones the past few years.

Not sure I'm a huge fan of the side of shorts design, but the pin stripes are SHARP!

Grey - why did it have to be grey? Because we're a decade behind. Better than naked.

I hope some AST members will be attending this men's and women's preseason basketball event. My wife and I will be out of town so, unfortunately, we won't be able to attend. I think this is probably only open to Team Aggie members and season ticket holders but I'm not 100% certain.

My wife and i go every year. I actually like the bb format better than the football, but that may be due to the smaller number of players.

I’d love to hear any info that you get from this gathering. Wednesdays can be crowded at sudwerk as there is a very popular pub quiz that starts at 7:00. Normally I’d be there, but, for those old timers on here, I’ll be at UChicago watching my daughter (Aggie alum and been going to Aggie games since she was born) defend her dissertation for her PhD. Seems like yesterday that she was dancing with the band uh and giving high fives to the players after another Aggie victory.

Congratulations to your daughter! They grow up fast and we seem to grow older even faster!

COVID will keep us away. My wife has active COVID and I'm getting over it so staying away even with a mask. I always enjoy the "meet the team" and the coaches' remarks.

    Go Ags!

Sorry to hear that you and your wife are battling Covid. That damn virus just won't go away! Wishing you both a speedy recovery.

We have to miss also - quick trip to the mountains. I agree with AgAlum - basketball get together is more fun because you get to interact with the players a bit more. The women’s team always has a few players that have big personalities and try to engage with the fans.

Just read Gauchofreg's analysis of the men's team. He sure got it right about the total being more than the sum of the parts under Coach Les. That's what makes it so hard to predict how they'll do, but there sure seems to be a lot of potential there. I wish they weren't opening on election day. I'll lkely be too nervous to focus on the game.

I agree. I can't imagine what UW was thinking when they scheduled this game with the Aggies. Why in the world would they think that it was a good idea to schedule a game on election day? The game is scheduled for 7 pm and the polls will still be open on the west coast. I think they've pretty much assured themselves that the attendance will low.

We no longer have polling places with lines waiting to vote on election day up here in Washington. We already have our ballots and can only vote by mail or dropbox. We can vote any time we want between now and the official election day. So that should not impact attendance. I'm hoping to attend the game and check the early election results during timeouts.

UW basketball has a new coach and a lot of new players this year. A friend who is a Husky fan said they have low expectations for the team this year. So there may be low attendance, but probably not because of the election.

I thought the NCAA had a rule against practice/games on Election Day? They made a big deal of it. Hawk was not a big fan

Never mind - the rule got changed:

In-season athletes may not get Election day off due to a reversal of a 2020 NCAA rule.
Teams are now only required to give athletes a day off within 30 days of Nov. 8.

Good thing with bye week for football!

Thanks for the info, OAA. It sounds like the attendance may be lower than normal since there are low expectations for the Huskies this year and since I'm sure some fans will stay home to watch the election returns.

We often hear a lot about how difficult it is to play at some college arenas because they have such a large, raucous fan base but I always think it's harder for players to get emotionally into games that are played in big arenas that are practically empty. Hopefully, playing a Big 10 team in their season opener will be enough to get the Aggies fired up for this game.

I'm excited about the team that Jim Les has put together this year. We'll be guard strong as usual but have more length as well this year and, if we can get good contributions from our big men on a consistent basis, we could be a very good team this year.

“ but have more length as well this year”
Last night Les had the exact same comment. The men’s and women’s team both sound like there is tremendous potential. For what it’s worth, the average age of attendees if you throw out the players, must have been 70. Where are the younger fans?

How many folks showed up? Anything more you can tell us about what the coaches and players had to say?
  • agalum
    339
Not sure of the head count but some folks were standing in the back.
Paraphrasing, Les said this squad has the potential to be one of the best defensive groups he’s had. He also said look for a fast paced game where they want to quickly score in transition. Shredville?
Jen was real high on her group, was happy with some newcomers, lots of international experience playing on the Canadian national team.

Is the term "shredville" something new this year? I can't find where, how or when it started.

that started with Hawk/Plough and Jake Maier. He was the ‘mayor of shredville’

Thanks. Jan will miss the women's first game - as I write this she's still COVID positive although feeling much better. And we're STOKED for this season.
