From my recollection its rare that a DT / DL starts as a true frosh. Depth? ... We have had true freshmen contribute at DB, LB, WR, RB. I hope we still land another local young man from Sac.
They may not have started but Inoke Raikadroka and Zack Pettit played some as freshmen. I’m sure there are others
We’re kind of thin at DT so there is an opportunity if he can seize it.
ATH Trever Facey from Sutter has committed to the Ags! 5'7" or 8", 180#, multi-sport athlete, lines up as a RB or SB. 1800 yds rushing, 13 ypc, 130 ypg, one site says 4.6 40. Competes in track.
I am guessing that Gallagher might be a preferred walk on at Davis. He says he received another opportunity to play football at Davis and Nevada, but received a scholarship offer to Humboldt. Either way he looks like he would be a nice addition.
Josiah will be expected to contribute right away. I saw him play in a JPS Nor Cal all-star game in Hawaii in early January. He is a stout wide body who can move. We need a couple more Josiah's. We have no lock-down corners, no speed rush off the edge; D needs help. I am reluctant to make this observation, but we have far too many players on the roster who have yet to develop. Chances are they will not. And they are all on scholarship. This is what Hawk inherited from the previous staff. And with the large number of scholarship and half scholarship players brought in last year, I will guess we have maybe a dozen to give this year.
Do you find it interesting that none of the guys on the list in page 1 went to FCS schools in our state or our league? Almost all FBS. Perhaps we lost some that were never on your list but it appears as though our peers are not our competitors in recruiting? Surely some player we offered picked Cal Poly or San Diego... No?
"I am extremely proud and pumped to announce that I am COMMITTED to play Division 1 football at The University of California, Davis‼️‼️ #AGScension#GoAgs"
That also brings us up to 21 known commits! Some of these guys must have preferred walk on status because I don't know how we have that many scholarships available. We'll find out in a couple of days.
and 0 running backs after only two last year, if you exclude the ccsf transfer last year. What if anything do we know about redshirt Ulonzo Gilliam? We need a speed tailback as a change of pace even if we go with Tehran as the primary tailback. None of our returning tailbacks have above average speed for this level.
we won't announce preferred walk-ons, only scholarship guys. kids can
'commit' via social media, of course. might be interesting to see a roster to see if we had some 'unpreferred walk-offs' after the big signing and quick integration of new players. i'm guessing we do the same thing of last year with combinations of grants/athletic scholarships to get a bigger than expected class.
