UNC is tied for the third-highest number of players in the NCAA Transfer Portal out of all FCS schools and leads the state in transfers with 28, many of whom declared their departures this week.

When McCaffrey was hired in December 2019, players were promised an incredible new opportunity under a Super Bowl champion. Instead, they allegedly experienced unchecked partiality, negligible communications and potential NCAA violations regarding financial aid.

I don't think you can replace 28 players leaving unexpectedly at this late date...and with a potential scandal looming, it will make recruitment even more difficult.

Most of the issues didn't sound illegal, mainly unprofessional, sloppy, unprepared and amateur.

The hire seemed a little odd from the get go, maybe a bit desperate. There were rumblings last season about his work ethic and the playing of his son. I guess that was the tip of the iceberg

The article mentioned some possible NCAA rule violations regarding not following the rules for reducing the amount of scholarship for a player..

His son also allegedly had two testing violations when he was with the NFL. The hire was a red flag, the promotion another (27 yo). My understanding is that in season work hours for coaches are brutal.

Interesting contrast between this and the the Nathaniel Hackett press conference. Hackett reportedly builds relationships with players, and it looks like McCaffrey’s main problem is not building any relationships with his players.

Wow I just got around to reading this article. Definitely not a good look for McCaffrey or UNC. Sounds like the tiniest bit of power went straight to his head.

Something like this would never happen in Aggie football...never! The UCD program is founded upon Aggie Pride from the coaches to the players and everybody else in Aggie football.

Culture should mean something to a recruit, and certainly all the best programs have very good, distinct culture. UC Davis has great people and a great academic/football culture to thrive in. Sounds like UNC got blitzed by the McCaffrey gang.
