One of the state universities in my area decided to offer an extension certificate course free because they figured a lot of people were at home or out of work. Normally like $1000 and a small online class. Registration was open for a few days and over 60,000 people signed up. The school has about 20,000 students normally so this broke their registrars office because apparently it doesn’t work to have one class section that large. The professor running it made the mistake of using his email signature and now says in the first 15 minutes of office hours he received 700 emails and 200 missed calls. Kind of funny but also kind of cool that people are using some of this time for continuing education. Hopefully more universities follow suit.
