Raiders are only dressing 4 WR as 05 said, expect a heavy run game, screen game -- and Carr will then be forced to get a playmaker going. It'll be Renfrow, Ateman, Doss and Davis in that order. Carr's comfort level with KD isn't what it is for Ren and Ate. Davis has been on the team for about 10 days (via Packers).
What a 180 degree change. Just a few weeks ago they were overloaded at WR ... lead dog self destructed, can't recall what happened to all the other guys.
Another starting receiver is out of Oakland. Thursday of their bye week saw J.J. Nelson cut, making for three of the team’s starters released just five games into the season.
The first was Antonio Brown who requested and was granted hi released two days before the start of the season. Stepping in for him was to be Nelson, who had filled in for Brown in camp while the problem child was trying to fight a losing battle with the NFL over his helmet.
The problem was Nelson had an ankle injury he had been dealing with most of the preseason, so Ryan Grant got the first start across from Tyrell Williams. Two week ago Grant was released after putting up just
Nelson would start one game in week three, catching four passes for 36 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown was the Raiders’ only score against the Vikings and it came on a flea-flicker.
The following week, Nelson was back on the shelf after feeling some tightness in his leg prior to their game in Indianapolis. He would miss their game against the Bears in London as well which no doubt raised some big questions about his overall durability.
Tuesday the Raiders traded a 5th round pick to the Bills to acquire WR Zay Jones. With his acquisition, they waived Marcell Ateman. Now two days later, instead of putting Ateman back on the practice squad, they re-signed him to the active roster and cut Nelson instead.
The Raiders receiving corps is now Tyrell Williams, Zay Jones, Hunter Renfrow, Trevor Davis, Keelan Doss, Marcell Ateman, and Dwayne Harris.
