• How many games will you attend in 2018 ?
Lights would actually make me attend fewer games. I don't much care for being out at night, even when I go on real trips.

I'll go to SAC State/River Cats games at night because they're very quick trips home.
  • UC Davis Dream Team Debate
Maybe it was just some talk about him thinking of trying out for football at the time, and it was to have been after basketball.
  • UC Davis Dream Team Debate
Didn't Juillerat also play football for a season ? I'm thinking I remembered seeing his name connected with
    another sport.
  • UC Davis Dream Team Debate
About Fowzi Abdelsamad, I remember Coach Kouba made no mention of him being recruited on his website. There was a player who redshirted the previous year DeWayne Parker (saw him at Aggie Jam) who suddenly was not on the roster in 00- 01. Until I actually saw Abdelsamad play I thought perhaps Parker had found Islam and changed his name. Some NBA stars were doing that. I do know Parker found his way onto the roster of a community college in Arizona.

Speaking of Aggie Jam, do they still have that, or did the new age liberals decide it was offensive to peanut butter ?
  • UC Davis Dream Team Debate
If he hadn't devoted his college time to basketball Rasmussen could have had a pro baseball career, albeit probably not avery long one. Walked right onto the team in the middle of his senior year, and arguably did better than a few pitchers they already had.
  • UC Davis Dream Team Debate
Fowzi Abdelsamad played from the 2000- 01 season until the 2004- 2005 season. If memory serves he redshirted as a true sophomore.
  • New woman’s sport
Sac State has 14 on Its beach volleyball roster. Most, if not all, are on the fall indoor team. IfUCD followed the same path it likely wouldn't create a sport for additional female student athletes, but rather another opportunity for the existing ones. I don't know if it"s enough that the opportunities are there, or if the number of unique student athletes matters more for Title IX. If the number of unique athletes had more importance then UCD would have to ensure that it's however many different people. The question is how do you recruit for beach volleyball ? You can't just take all the women who didn't make the indoor team.

Nothing was wrong with recreation hall. It at least contained a description of what kind of hall it was.

Remember when UCD and Boise State used to compete against each other in wrestling ? Now neither has a team. Boise State dropped theirs to add...baseball ? Good for them. It must be horribly boring there for sports after basketball is done at the Taco Bell Arena. In fact the Taco Bell Arena is on the site where their field used to be. I am typing Taco Bell Arena to emphasize how ridiculous that sounds, which is almost as ridiculous as The Pavilion. Even "The Stupid Pavilion" (named after Alumnus Alexander Stupid) or "The Smelly Pavilion" would be better. Add an adjective or a surname for pete's sake...must Davis be a weirdo rebel about everything ?"
  • 2018 Roster
I don't expect to see an Aggie baseball roster for a few weeks yet, but I saw some interesting news.

SAC State released their roster, and If you think the Aggies will have a lot of new faces get a load of this :

The hornets have only 14 players returning that played in a game in 2017. They lost 18 players from last year's roster, only 8 of which were seniors or drafted. Talk about cleaning house...and this from a team that went to the Stanford regional !

The strangest of the losses was would- be sophomore Ricky Martinez. Heck of an infielder who could really hit. He's from TX. Maybe he got homesick. They also lost 3 players that had been w/the program 3 years. Tough to make that team !

Edit: Martinez wound up at Grayson Community College in TX. Apparently he is going to parlay this opportunity into an opportunity at Tennessee per Baseball America. Reminds me, I need to check BA for the Big West preview
  • Cutts out as HC at UCR
I wonder how they work that. I thought the school had to be a non- profit to be NAIA. Supposedly that's what kept Grand Canyon from making the change sometime after Davis moved up. D1 wasn't their first choice. They'd already left the WAC to go the CCAA.

Cal State Hayward (refuse to call them CSU East Bay) can't seem to decide what they want to be. When the CCAA decided they were losers I guess and didn't invite them to join in 1998 they went down to D3. Now they're in the CCAA finally.
  • Cutts out as HC at UCR
So Cutts was cut ? Maybe he should go work at a hair salon Stitt, the football coach for Montana was found to be full of himself I guess ? I hear Dan Hawkins has two sisters, Sadie and Sophie. One likes to set up dances, while the other prefers to sing soothing music for people who have been depressed since the 1990's. If Jim Les gets fired at some point, it will likely be because he was "Les" than a winning coach.

Is it a prerequisite that you have a pun- worthy name to be a coach?

I almost forgot. Years ago I saw SF State play the Aggies. Took all my strength to avoid shouting "Okaaaaaaay!!" when assistant coach Littlejohn was announced
  • Practice field is going in...
Why do they need a scoreboard for a practice field ? So they can tell who's winning a fake game ? Someone on the sidelines with a timer and a notebook can accomplish the same thing more cheaply. Waste of money that scoreboard ! Saw the same deal at San Diego State.

Wait, I think I see the point now. If they have a scoreboard they can let youth teams play on the practice field instead of on the good field inside the stadium. Much easier cleanup after games because the fans just bring their own lawnchairs. All the cigarette butts and empty cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon will just be lying out in plain sight.
  • Would Tougher Non-Conference Schedules Be Better for MBB & WBB?
If you'd like an example of a weird schedule it gets no weirder than Portland State. They've been squatting at different venues this year while the Stott Center is being replaced. Most of the home games are being played at Lewis and Clark College, but they've played 1 at the Moda Center (Butler) and a couple at the minor league hockey facility right next to it (Duke, Stanford). They probably would've played those games at Moda Center and Memorial Coliseum anyway.

On the one hand they've beaten Stanford and Cal, but they also have FOUR patsies scheduled ( Evergreen State, Willamette, Portland Bible College, and Linfield). My guess is these schools came to play Lewis + Clark + just figured why not get an extra game in ?

That Lewis + Clark gym must have been terribly busy this year.
  • MBB 2 pm Saturday: Holy Names (6-8) @ the Aggies (8-5)
I saw that game in the used section at Game stop....for about $6 Anything they're willing to sell that cheaply can't be good. They still sell other used Nintendo 3DS games from 5 years ago for $30. Nobody plays 3DS anymore except for me, and I don't play the 3D ones...too many dimensions !
  • MBB 2 pm Saturday: Holy Names (6-8) @ the Aggies (8-5)
I made the SAC State game after all, on which I won't be giving updates because well..who cares, right ?

This place is so small that if you sit in the GA section the players walk right past you. A couple of them were eyeing my dinner. An interesting surprise. They have a good food truck.

Portland State has a 7'1 transfer from Gonzaga.. and he starts. He also had one of his shots blocked. Still don't believe it.

With Maurihoho Le'Afa the announcer just says his name as quickly as possible so no one notices if he butchers it.

Holy cow ! The 3- 10 hornets are about to move into second place in the Big Sky lol 77- 71 with less than 30 sec to go.
  • MBB 2 pm Saturday: Holy Names (6-8) @ the Aggies (8-5)
Disappointed in the pronunciation of Chima Moneke- sounds just like it looks. Isn't there some sort of Lego video game lion hero named Chima ?

I appreciated the effort of Colin Russell today. I believe- 10 pts. He didn't foul out either. Seems to me he usually does, not unlike the kid in that book I read as a kid- Sideways Stories from Wayside School. There's a kid who gets sent home early everyday on the little kid bus because he pulls the girls' pigtails. No little kid bus for Russell today !
