• Week 2: UC Davis @ San Diego
Looks like it will be on Stadium, which is normally the Mountain West streaming site iirc (I guess because WCC network doesn't do football?)

I'll look into it and provide links in the morning
  • Bad press for the Band-Uh!
We're largely in agreement, Band-Uh! was well-loved and this is gonna be a major blow to the Aggie community. I think this is a very risky decision for admin and one that I personally am sad about from my outside-looking-in perspective.

I'm just saying, like I said in an earlier comment, we don't know if what's been published is the full story. We don't know if there's other issues going through campus disciplinary channels. We don't know if any of the sexual harassment issues alleged like between alumni and band members, have gone or will go to litigation or court. My work experience in this area that leads me to think it's very possible that the university wouldn't necessarily publish all the evidence they have.

Like I said in earlier, UCD could have much more easily kept the Band-Uh! name but still made it campus-run. I honestly do not believe admin is that stupid to scrap it entirely without having some reason to do so that made sense from their perspective. Maybe it's as you say and it was entirely based on a strong reaction to what we already know. But it could very well be more than that.

This is just my two cents. Again, I don't know what's up.
  • Bad press for the Band-Uh!
I feel like there's two issues at play here: the substantiveness of the underlying claims and the decision admin made based on how it interpreted/believed those claims.

I don't think we, as keyboard warriors, have any realistic shot of evaluating the substantiveness of the claims. It seems like it's a stretch to me to dive into the majors of the accusers and other extraneous details. And I know that I actually had something happen to me like what's been accused I would be really uncomfortable/hurt that random people were actively looking for ways to discredit me purely based on publicly available information.

The university's investigators and disciplinary apparatus (and the courts, if anything discussed goes to trial or a civil suit) will be the ones who actually substantiate/ have substantiated the claims. It makes more sense to me to talk about whether we think the University made the appropriate response to what it believed were supportable accusations. I'm personally queasy on that front because I don't think calling the band something new will necessarily solve problems if they exist, and if they wanted to just make Band-Uh! a campus-run organization they could have done that. It wouldn't have been popular, but it wouldn't have gotten the kind of reaction this decision is getting.
  • Ticket prices
There are some on Stubhub for less: https://www.stubhub.com/uc-davis-aggies-football-tickets-uc-davis-aggies-football-davis-aggie-stadium-davis-9-28-2019/event/103971828/?sort=price+asc&sid=1672324

Presumably folks are selling PDF tickets from presales/ticket packages/ some other giveway.

There are also other paid lots on campus, no? Seems to me that if the parking pass is only for a certain lot then they're charging you a premium for convenience.
  • Bad press for the Band-Uh!
On the other hand, what we know very well could be the the extent of the allegations and the University decided this was the appropriate response. I don't know, and I'm not sure any of us ever will without an insider source.
  • Bad press for the Band-Uh!
In fairness, we don't know that there isn't one or won't be one. We wouldn't necessarily be privy to something going through the campus disciplinary channels or had a police report taken. Or if folks are talking to attorneys to decide the next course of action.

I think the assumption that what's been published so far represents the extent of the allegations could very well be wrong. Remember that despite tremendous interest from both fans and media, we still have never heard what happened that caused Chima to get permanently and immediately suspended.
  • Bad press for the Band-Uh!
I don't have a consistent opinion or take on this so I'll just lay out a couple of thoughts

    • Reforming the band seems like the university is taking a huge risk. Not only might it just never catch on and become a tradition like Band-Uh! did, but renaming it doesn't necessarily make the problems go away.
    • On the other hand, this might have to do as much with consistent admin clashes with the Band-Uh! than just he most recent allegations. Admin maybe felt the need to demonstrate to student orgs that there's a consequence level beyond suspension for repeat violations.
    • The extent of what's included in the University's report may not be the extent of the actual allegations / proven incidents that factored into this decision. If students reported things through other channels (i.e. to campus police, Title IX coordinator off the top of my head) then there might be other confidentiality rules in play.
    • I was president of a social club and I'm trying to picture what would have happened we had activities similar to those alleged against Band-Uh! that local news reported on. I imagine we would have at least gotten disinvited from campus events that we coordinated with admin on. (Effectively, the equivalent of no longer being able to play at games). Not sure about getting dissolved as an org though.
    • Don't know if there is really any standard for due process here. It's an org that uses university facilities and plays at university events. Don't know who owns the trademark but as someone else said they might very well be allowed to call themselves Band-Uh! and play off-campus. Just the university has likely no particular obligation to provide a forum for them.
  • Where can I get an Aggie Doss jersey?
So... since there seems to be a bit of dissatisfaction with the store offerings, would there be any interest in creating an "Official AST" fan jersey? Pretty sure UCD can't/won't do anything if someone uses a custom jersey website to make a navy and white 15 jersey that happens to say "DAVIS" on it.
  • Big Sky Scores Week 1
SDSU also has an incredibly slow and conservative offense. Didn't get to watch that game because I was at the Cal game, but they were probably running on 3rd and 10s.

I think Weber has legit defense, don't get me wrong, but SDSU is the kind of team you can hold scoreless for quarters at a time so long as you stack the box and break up the occasional pass. They also justifiably trust their defense a lot and don't mind avoiding risks. It wouldn't be weird to me if Sac scored more against Weber by actually taking risks.
  • Aggies vs Bears
Season-wise we're fine. Even if the offense loses a little from last year we can still win almost any game in which our D holds the opponent to 27 and takes the ball away with regularity.

It's disappointing that we didn't actually win that but we had some tough breaks and the playbook was pretty conservative.
  • Week 1 FCS Games of Note
Aaaand OT!! UNI is repping the fcs in a big way, and it's even a national broadcast
  • Week 1 FCS Games of Note
Watching UNI @ #21 Iowa State now. It's weird watching a ranked P5 struggle harder against UNI than the Aggies did
  • Prediction time!
His first season we won something like 21-3. SUU couldn't stop the power run so they were helpless against the Gould offense if I remember right.
  • Aggies vs Bears
As I recall, yes. We also had a TD called back on a penalty (might have been a defensive play though, I forget) and we went for it and failed to convert instead of kicking a FG at one point. I think it's fair to say that we may have been able to score about 20 in that game if things went slightly differently.
  • Aggies vs Bears
Idk, every time I hear some Cal say "THE University of California" that definitely amps up my desire to beat them.

Also, I don't know if this was always a thing before the ultra-competitive current era of college admissions, but my Cal-going high school classmates definitely looked down on me for going to Davis. That kind of thing puts it beyond a friendly rivalry in my opinion, at least for the Ags.
  • Prediction time!
I'm predicting 9-3 with losses to Cal, NDSU, and MSU. (You could easily swap Weber in for the last one though).

I do think there's a scenario in which we go undefeated. (Run game improvesdue to experience at the line and RB, defense goes from average to above average). But we're going to be underdogs in two games for sure and I imagine the odds may catch up to us somewhere along the line in conference play.
  • Aggies vs Bears
I have no clue how this will turn out, but what I am pretty sure of is that if NDSU were playing a so so team from the worst P5 conference, the bison would expect to win. So that's what I'm coming down on this game -- FCS or not, if we want to reach our potential as a program we'll eventually need to treat games like this as winnable.
  • New Construction on Campus
Wellman's restrooms were below average, same for Rosseler (spelling?) And pretty much any older class building. The public ones tend to be in decent shape, sure, but overall my average grade for campus bathrooms was about a B.

I can't recall how bad the paint was but some of the Surge buildings and other prefab buildings were in pretty bad shape. I agree with the general assessment that some of the newer buildings are really nice but there are a lot that are way past their primes.
  • Aggies in Pre-season Ratings
same, with free cancellation though. I'm not that bold
  • Looking Forward to 2019
Aggies will be practicing at Colfax High for 3 days in August

Thought this was interesting, as Colfax is my alma mater but I never expected it to get attention from a D1 school. TE Garren O'Keefe is a Colfax grad, and there's been some other D1 recruits from that neck of the woods (UCLA star DE Eddie Vanderdoes played against Colfax when I was there).

This might also be a way to get some elevation training in.
