• Montana, Montana State opt out of spring FCS championship season
Really hope it's streamed somewhere, my Hulu subscription doesn't have it and my little desktop antenna just isn't cut out for--well--the thing it was designed to do.

Normally I would just make this an excuse to go to a sports bar and ask for the game, but, well, I don't see that in my future this spring
  • WBB: Aggies (5-0) @ #12 Oregon (11-3) 6 pm Saturday 2/06
This is insanity. I know Oregon's rusty, but with their resume and how we're handling them tonight, I'm starting to think UCD is an upper-quartile PAC team (or at least certainly would be with their kinds of budgets)
  • WBB: Aggies (5-0) @ #12 Oregon (11-3) 6 pm Saturday 2/06
Program feels light years away from that 60-pt UConn loss or whatever the score was ages ago.
  • WBB: Aggies @ UCSB January 28 and 29

Long road ahead but still I'm pretty impressed by this year's squad
  • WBB: Aggies @ UCSB January 28 and 29
Ended up not being particularly close.

One of the commentators sounds a little dumbfounded
  • WBB: Aggies @ UCSB January 28 and 29
Gauchos aren't going away but they just can't stop the Aggie starters when the shots are falling.

I like what UCSB did with the giant mural to hide the rolled-up bleachers. Having no fans is a net negative on TV for the teams that consistently fill seats, but for the rest of us it does provide some unique opportunities to create a more interesting TV viewing experience

Held Tritons to 0-11 in the second quarter, this is destruction
  • WBB Hosting UCSD 3:00 Today
Aggies cruising to well over double the Tritons' score with seconds to go in the half, this looks like a brutal demolition compared to the Mens' battle.

Commentator mentioned that Konrad was training her 3-point game with Ryan Sypkens this summer, with apparent results.
  • Coach Kouba a Top 10 professor on campus
Kouba's class was my lowest grade since like middle school at the time and yet I still just have overwhelmingly fond memories of it. It wasn't even that he made calculus that interesting--because that's a losing battle I think--it's just that with his explanations I actually felt like I understood it and was comfortable to be challenged by it for the first time.

That happened to be winter quarter freshman year, and so it was very perplexing when basketball season rolled around and I kept seeing him on the bench.

Urgh news to me but I could totally see that. I hope we could qualify for a conference regular season title at least, I feel like the ring would still mean a lot to the team given how this program has been hit harder than many by the weirdness of this season
  • WBB Hosting UCSD 3:00 Today
Tallest lineup (I assume) in school history and they tie the 3-pt record.

Even with what's essentially offseason rust still, this team could just roll over conference by the time the tourney comes around, dang.
  • Tim Plough new OC at Boise State
I wonder if preseason interim-OCs frowned upon from a "just a few months left to get the team to gel and learn the playbook" perspective

I kinda groaned internally when I saw Cody would get the nod because my mind like everyone else's went to the controversy at Colorado, but I admit he is qualified and I'm certainly not going to advocate doing any in-person netowrking or interviews or anything these days.
  • Nevada and San Jose State...
Yep. Commentators mentioned during the Boise/SJSU game that both coaches are getting chatter for the Arizona job.

I remember when UCD beat them the SJSU fans were complaining that Brennan was a terrific, charismatic guy but they didn't like his results. Well, now he has the results so I imagine ADs are drooling over what kind of talent he can bring in with major recruiting budgets
  • Nevada and San Jose State...
He was a starter at A&M too before transfering, it's a really remarkable career.

Worth noting they won the SDSU game with a backup QB. They also had the conference DPOY. I have no idea how SJSU built this kind of roster after seemingly having nothing going for them.
  • Nevada and San Jose State...
Feel-good story of the year. Had a huge championship drought, had to relocate several times, dealt with multiple cancelled games, and just put their heads down and persevered. (Think they had 0 program COVID cases throughout the whole season too.)
  • 2021 Football Recruiting
Am I reading this right that we're beating San Jose State for some of these recruits -- literally a ranked FBS team (though admittedly a surprise this year)
  • Physical Education eliminated
If I were a student, I'd be disappointed. My flag football class with Mark Johnson was just about the highlight of senior year.

This is a weird move from a purely philosophical side of things to me, because just a few years ago the university was really buying in to the "provide services that create well-rounded students" strategy. Although at the same time, there was also a push to make it more data-driven, which makes me wonder if the "numbers" (GPA and retention outcomes) didn't look that good for PE classes somehow.

I'd further speculate that the school may have been aware of and even concerned about the fact that some PE classes were so competitive that all spots would be grabbed on the first day of registration by honors students, RAs, seniors, etc. (Or even exchanged or sold.) But that's a university-wide problem, not a funding problem IMO.
  • Blue is leaving
So ballpark of UCLA which already had a practice field. It doesn't seem terribly unreasonable to me at that point; not that I really know how much more arduous the building and environmental requirements are between LA and Davis. Also, I don't fully understand the scope of the Bob Foster center renovations; if those are substantial that complicates the cost/sf estimates I imagine.

Looking up pictures of the other facilities, parts of Montana's has a bit of a "warehouse" feel; less so for the others.
  • MBB: William Jessup at UC Davis, Friday, Dec. 4, 4:00 PST
I just looked their arena up and it's much nicer than I expected. Not the biggest, but a "real D1" venue unlike some schools we know in the state
  • MBB: William Jessup at UC Davis, Friday, Dec. 4, 4:00 PST
Is that a twitter streaming link I see? Cautiously optimistic.

Not that I'm a fan of too much consolidation of content, I do think that having games only available on the BWTV's obscure streaming website isn't a very good look for the conference. Honestly the facebook link for the Women's home opener was the best experience I ever had with a Big West TV game
