UCD twitter says score was corrected to 74-59; must have been what Jim Les was checking up on with the officials towards the end

72-59 I think was the score, but ESPN weirdly is off on their box score.

Aggies put their foot on the gas in the final 10 minutes. Chima's 3-ball has the potential to be devastating if he can be remotely consistent

Close game, Ags playing aggresive defense as usual forcing a lot of TOs but also committing a lot of fouls.

Chima wasn't on the floor for much of the end of the half.

That last one was an excited observation, not a criticism.

But generally yeah, I'm going to on be pessimistic about Aggie Football until proven otherwise. Maybe it's just a perspective thing -- I've never seen UCD field a competitive football team since I've become a fan. Following this team for six seasons has entirely been an exercise in developing coping mechanisms and it won't be simple to let that part go.
  • WBB 2 pm Sunday: Pepperdine @ the Aggies
I expect that the Ags will get pressured a lot this year because no opponent will want to let the shooters get into any sort of rhythm. Like 69Aaggie said though, it does seem like the athleticism is there to grind out wins.

Pregame senior celebration happened when I was a student, and I think Idaho State did it before our game last week. So my guess is it's common practice these days.

The hook-and-ladder looked suspiciously similar to a certain do-or-die play that Boise ran a year after Hawk left...

Oh whew Google really screwed up there I guess
  • WBB 2 pm Sunday: Pepperdine @ the Aggies
Am I reading that score right? Did they score 50 in a quarter???
  • Week 11: Southern Utah Thunderbirds
Panicked for a moment because my Roku remote stopped working and I couldn't turn the stream off
  • Week 11: Southern Utah Thunderbirds
If we're not aggressive when it matters then I don't attach much significance into being aggressive sometimes.

Based on what I'm seeing, my opinion -- and this is just my opinion, I'm not a football expert -- is that Hawkins took advantage of some low-hanging fruit (grabbed a good underrated QB, switched to the pass-first offense, etc) without correcting all the subtler issues the team has been having.

I hope I'm wrong and/or we're trending upwards, but we'll see next year and the year after.
  • Week 11: Southern Utah Thunderbirds
SUU is putting up a highlight reel.

I'm starting to really sour on Hawk or at least withholding judgment for a few years.. This is still not a good football team, and I think that fact has been obscured somewhat by having some decent individual talent and a different offense.

Maybe things are changing, but we're still at the same win total that Gould had his first season. And a lot of the same problems are still there, except for injuries.
  • Week 11: Southern Utah Thunderbirds
I was more commenting on that particular drive where they stopped the big play until, well, it happened.

Why has our tackling been so consistently bad among multiple staffs?
  • Week 11: Southern Utah Thunderbirds
Defense actually seems a little improved, SUU has to really fight for yards. It's chewing up clock though
  • Week 11: Southern Utah Thunderbirds
Probably for the best that nobody's seeing this
  • Week 11: Southern Utah Thunderbirds
Didn't catch who's being interviewed right now but his comment "obviously we're not going to outspend a lot of people" rubbed me the wrong way.

We have the biggest endowment and probably richest alumni base of the conference. At some point we have to look at how we can get to the point where we're outspending everybody.
  • Week 11: Southern Utah Thunderbirds
Edit/Addition -- also this season is way more frustrating than Goulds' because we're pretty much at the known peak of Aggie D1 football -- I can't see us having more talented skill players or more experienced coaches anytime soon. So if this team somehow can't put together consistent respectable performances I'm not optimistic that it'll ever happen.
  • Week 11: Southern Utah Thunderbirds
The thing about Davis Football is like, I get it, we won't recruit the top talent in the conference and every once in a while we'll just get outgunned by some team that's just bigger and faster. But that just makes coaching and technique errors even less excusable. There's no room for error against good teams like SUU.
  • Week 11: Southern Utah Thunderbirds
forcing a 3-and-out would be really great here, we have 3 timeouts and everything
