I agree. I think we all tend to forget how much bias and politics there is in these polls.

The Ags beat USD by 28 and get 2 votes and they get 16...uh, you gotta admit that that is completely screwy. (N)
  • Week 3: UC Davis @ Portland State
Bob Dunning wrote an interesting article about the long history of PSU's Providence Park Stadium "which is one of the oldest, continuous operating stadiums in the country." He also noted the following:

"Of the 13 teams in the Big Sky Conference, Portland State was dead last in attendance last fall with an average of just over 4,500, which is barely 20 percent of capacity."

Sac State caught a big break in their soccer win over the Lady Ags. The Aggies were depleted with injuries and were down 3 starters to start the game and lost another during the game. Lousy luck!

Unfortunately, "hungry" might be an understatement about PSU. I think they are going to be revved up and ready to go after two frustrating loses to two FBS teams to start their season. They feel like they had a legitimate chance to win those games but came up short. Now they are back home and will be ready to take out their frustrations on the Ags.

This will be a stiff test for this young Aggie team. They will need weather the Vikings' storm of energy early in the game, play smart and within themselves, execute crisply, minimize mistakes, and make some critical plays to give themselves a chance to win this one.
  • Week 2: University of San Diego @ UC Davis
I was thinking the same thing about the hand clap snap but in the second half they weren't always snapping the ball on the first clap. I kept thinking that USD's defense was getting a head start since we were telegraphing the snap with such regularity. Maybe we're more interested in the speed of play than changing up the rhythm of the snap.

In the second half there were a few times where Maier would clap and then pull up and look to the sideline for the play and then go on the second clap. I've got to believe that there are some variations to the clap snap though. Otherwise, the opponent's defense can just tee off without hesitation on every play.

Women's soccer is off to a rough start (1-7).
  • Lumberjack football to get the ax?
"HSU started with an "exhibition" game against CETYS Universidad of Tijuana, MX.

Huh...you gotta be kidding me...that's digging deep for some games!
  • Lumberjack football to get the ax?
    Yikes...so much for help from the Man Upstairs! :-}
  • Week 2: University of San Diego @ UC Davis
The Aggie offense is running as quick a tempo between snaps as I have ever seen in football. The pace is impressively fast and the Aggie big men must be in awfully good shape to be able to keep up at that pace. I'm not even sure how they get the plays called from the sideline so quickly. It was fun to watch!
  • Lumberjack football to get the ax?
It does not sound good for the Lumberjacks. D2 football is just not viable anymore out west.
  • Week 2: University of San Diego @ UC Davis
The historical front runners in the Big Sky like EWU and Montana always have a few players that could play at the FBS level. We need to be able to keep a few ourselves in order to continue to elevate the program. I think Doss will stay and put up some big numbers for us and the pros will notice even though teams are certainly going to be targeting him defensively.

BTW, #75 for USD was 6'8 and 315 lbs...that's NFL size!
  • UC Davis Footbal: Our Legacy - video
Perhaps the best video about Aggie football I've ever seen. This is what it's all about and, really, what it's all about for all the Aggie sports. Hawk says it so well. It needs to be promoted heavily and shared extensively. Magnificent!
  • Aggie Stadium
The new scoreboard is fantastic but the mic problems continue to haunt us. The Daktronics screen is sharp as a tack and the audio crisp and clear so they can play it loud enough but not so loud that it damages your hearing.

Something must have been wrong with the video replays for most of the game. We started getting replays shown in the 4th quarter. The Aggie offensive tempo is so fast that it tough to get a replay on each snap but they finally figured it out.
  • Week 2: University of San Diego @ UC Davis
I'm at the game and the big Daktronics screen is awesome! Tack sharp and great audio. Only big problem is that there have been no replays. What the heck..???
  • Aggie Stadium
    Excerpt from the Enterprise:

The Aggies will unveil their mammoth new scoreboard on Saturday. The 1,400-square-foot Daktronics screen will be a game-changer, Deputy Athletic Director Rocko DeLuca promises.

An investment of just over $500,000 comes from UCD’s Aggie Stadium capital improvements budget and the south-end wonder will continue to be named in honor of original scoreboard donors Dorothy and Melvin J. Olsen.

“We had some help from our partners with purchasing on campus,” explains DeLuca, who said the project was first discussed in January and got underway this summer. “It was a pretty tight window.”

  • Week 2: University of San Diego @ UC Davis
Bob Dunning picks the Ags by 14:

"AGGIES over SAN DIEGO … the “other” San Diego has had tremendous recent success in the Pioneer League, which in no way, shape or form can be compared to the Big Sky. However, the Toreros are a feisty bunch and capable of ruining UCD’s home opener. Take the Ags by 14."

Dunning was 54-5 overall in his picks last week. Things get tougher for him this week now that most of the body bag games are over.

Thanks, movie. It's apparent that Hawk knows what it will take to the program to the tip of the FCS.

It appears that that men's and women's basketball and even some other sports will have a coaches show:
