Was Barriere wearing gloves? I didn't notice that. I don't remember JT wearing gloves either but, at my age, memory is suspect!

I still can't quite wrap my head around Thompkins throwing the ball with a gloves on. We haven't seen much of his ability to throw yet but we'll need more from him than his athletic ability to run and scramble. He certainly had the numbers in high school though so maybe his unorthodox style of passing simply fits him. He's exciting to watch that for sure and he's tough as nails.

I feel good about this team and I think the outlook for the fall season is very positive given how we played this spring. It appears that we have not suffered any devastating injuries and the break will give us some time to heal up, get stronger, iron out some wrinkles and get ready for a very tough fall season in the Big Sky.

We have so much young talent and many them got some good playing time this spring. We appear to have good depth and that is critical for success in the tough Big Sky Conference. There are no easy outs in the Big Sky. It will take a great team effort along with some luck to make the fall playoffs with the kind of parity there is among the top teams in the conference. The Montanas, the Idahos, Weber, EWU, NAU and Sac all look to be tough this fall. Staying healthy and having depth will be very important.

The competition at QB will be interesting. Rodriques, Tompkins and Hastings all showed that they have their strengths. Who will win the starting role in the fall will be interesting to follow. Perhaps we'll end up seeing a couple of them getting significant minutes like we saw yesterday. Who knows...there doesn't appear to be a clear winner forging entirely ahead of the rest at this point.

It's nice to see that the defense is much improved and that our running game looks to be a strength for us. I'm hoping that we find a way to break open our passing attack as well. We have speed and talent in our receivers. So I hope we'll see us open up the mid-range and deep balls. If we can do that along with our good rushing attack we could be a very dangerous football team.

I'm really looking forward to this fall and watching us continue to get better.

Even the EWU fans on their forum thought the targeting call was horrible:

The Gonzaga - UCLA game was one of the greatest games ever played in the NCAA Tournament. Wow!

The targeting call was bogus and it took the wind out of our sails.

EWU is the best team in the Big Sky this spring...not Weber State.

EWU is just a better football team right now but we have a lot to look forward to in the fall. We have a lot of young talent and we will get better. Many of our younger players played a lot of quality minutes and that will pay dividends in the fall. Time to heal up and get stronger over the summer and get ready for Tulsa.

9 straight wins for EWU over the Aggies...they certainly have our number...
  • Week 5: #9 Eastern Washington @ #11 UC Davis
What was the thinking of Hawk to pull HR and Larison when the Ags had a bit of momentum. It resulted in a 3 and out and then EWU scores on a bomb... Head scratcher for me...

I didn't like that call either. Their D stacked the LOS to stop the run and we tried to punch it through them. I would have preferred something that gave us a option or two...

    Domination by EWU:

    Yards: 292 - 115
    Passing: 200 - 72
    Rushing: 92 - 43
    1st Downs: 18 - 5
    3rd Downs: 5-8 to 0-4
    4th Downs: 2-2 to 0-1
    Total plays: 41 - 21
Time of possession: 21:16 to 8:04

    No contest so far...

Our D is going to get gassed by the fast pace of EWU's offense and our inability to get stops...not good.

When had great pass coverage on the 3rd and long but lost containment on Barriere. That hurt...

EWU's hurry up offense has the Ag D on their heels. Unable to pressure Barriere so far.

Nice stop by the D after they rolled down the field.

These are two very evenly matched teams with talent on both sides of the ball, but EWU dual-threat pivot Eric Barriere should be the difference. The senior led the team on an epic playoff run in 2018 and has thrived in must-win situations before. Expect his experience and lethal arm to be key as he works an Aggies secondary that just gave up over 200 yards to the Bengals.

    Pick: Eastern Washington +2.5 (-106)
