Great effort by the Ags to get a draw after playing most of the second half down a man.
  • 2024 Week 5: Idaho (3-1) @ UC Davis (3-1)
Third-year Idaho coach Jason Eck says UC Davis running back Lan Larison is "the best offensive player in the conference," though he notes it hurts to see an Idaho native (Larison is from Caldwell) playing against the Vandals.

Eck did provide a little bulletin board material when he said he feels his Vandals have played a tougher schedule than the Aggies, given that UCD's three victories are over teams that are a combined 1-11 this fall

Both Plough and Eck agree that Idaho has one of the monsters of the midway in defensive lineman Keyshawn James-Newby from Helena, Montana. James-Newby has seven of his team's 13 sacks, causing Eck to note that numerous NFL scouts are aware of James-Newby's talents.

  • Sac State to get a New Stadium
Portland Aggie explained a way to get an X (former twitter) post to show up as a post in our forum a couple of days ago. I just tried it and it works perfectly.

    1. Click on the "up arrow" in the lower right hand portion of the original X post.
    2. Then click on the "copy link" that pops up.
    3. Then to post the X post in a topic here, click on the twitter icon (the bird) in the top row of icons and paste the copied X address into the "insert tweet" box that has opened.
    4. Now edit that address and delete the X.com in it and replace it with twitter.com and hit the GO button.
    5. The X post will now load and show up in your post.

“It’s about time, right,” said Orr, the Sacramento-raised AD who was showing off his Hornets green tie. “It’s about time we build a stadium worthy of its campus and community. It’s time for something new. When President Wood first got here last year, he asked me what we need to be the best of the best in athletics. We need a new football stadium, new facilities, more athletic scholarships. The first step of the plan was to get a football stadium and today, we’re announcing that. That’s a tremendous, tremendous step.”

The price tag for the grand proposal, which would make Hornet Stadium the largest sports venue in the capital region, was not disclosed though Wood said the funds from a variety of sources including donor funds and future naming rights was “secured.”

If you know this as a fact then please tell us the total cost estimate and the a breakdown of the sources for the funding. I saw a statement that said there would be an increase in student fees but no money would come from the general fund.

It's great to hear that the injured defensive starters will be back on Saturday. Do you know if any other players on either side of the ball will still be out?

I think our defense has been the strength of the team so far this year. They've bent at times but they haven't broken and they've come up with the big plays that sealed the win for us in two games even while they had a significant number of injuries to key players. They've shown a lot of depth and toughness.

The defense will need to have another stellar performance in this game as well and not let the game get away from us. We all know that our offense has had their struggles especially in the red zone where it counts the most and, if we can't take advantage of our opportunities on offense again, it will be up to the defense to keep things close if we are to have a chance to win.

It's not likely that we can get down big and come storming back. Our wins have been over teams that are a combined 1-11 and, even though we are 3-0 against those teams, each one of those games was a struggle. A 3-1 record overall at this point is what we all hoped for but I think we also expected that our wins would have been more decisive and confidence building than they have been.

Right now, most of pollsters aren't sure if we belong to be in the top 15. A win would give us a significant boost and put us squarely on radar of the FCS nationwide. A close loss might not hurt us too much but we'd I think we'd still drop out of the top 15 and, if we get blown out, we'll drop out of the rankings altogether.

This is a huge game for us. We could possibly have another record crowd in the stadium and we need to play well if we want them to come back. I think this game is going to tell us a lot about whether or not we are ready to compete with the top teams in the Big Sky. Go Ags!

It sounds like it was a "spirited" contest with a Fullerton player getting a red card in the 81st minute. The Titans also had 19 fouls to the Aggies' 5 fouls.

Tempers flared in the final minutes, with Cal State Fullerton reduced to 10 players after three separate yellow cards were issued in the 82nd minute

KCRA News covered Sac State's announcement to build a new stadium. The university said they have hired an architect but did not comment on the cost. They also said that the student fees that go toward athletics will increase from $181/year to $256/year and additional funds are expected to come from alums and corporate support.

I always wondered why the official capacity was listed as 10,743? Last week we had 14,832 so the official capacity figure is certainly not a number that the fire marshal enforces. In addition, there's nothing in the stadium that would be a fire hazard since it's a sunken, concrete stadium and has many easily accessible exits if there was the need for an emergency evacuation.

The only health hazard to fans is the heat and the later start times have mostly addressed this problem although the fans on the east side and the end zones can still get baked in the games that start at 1 or 4 pm if the temps are high later in the season.

Hopefully, we'll have some players back from injury on both sides of the ball and, like you said, we'll need to execute and finish much better than we have been doing or this game could get away from us real fast.

AS PAC-12 GROWS AND MOUNTAIN WEST SHRINKS, ARE AGGIES IN THE MIX? ... On Monday morning, the six-team Pac-12 reached across the country and offered spots to AAC members Memphis, Tulane and South Florida, but all three turned down the overture and elected to stay put.

This led to a quick Pac-12 offer to Utah State Monday afternoon that was just as quickly accepted. So yes, the Aggies are now in the Pac-12, but not the same Aggies that Davis folks know and love.

The Pac-12 (the league retained that title even when it was down to just Oregon State and Washington State) has already raided Mountain West schools San Diego State, Fresno State, Boise State and Colorado State, leaving both leagues with seven schools, one short of the NCAA minimum for recognition as a conference.

UNLV, which earlier on Monday committed to stay in the Mountain West, withdrew that commitment when Utah State announced it was leaving and is now reconsidering a Pac-12 offer.

If UNLV leaves, the Mountain West will need to quickly add at least two teams, which is where rumors about UC Davis continue to swirl, along with other top-enders in the Big Sky and Missouri Valley. Even if UNLV stays, the MWC may consider UCD and perhaps the Montana or Dakota schools. Sacramento State would also like to be in the conversation.
