• Week 7: Northern Colorado @ UC Davis
    6 after Larison's reception.
  • Week 7: Northern Colorado @ UC Davis
Larison gets 50 yards then doesn't touch the ball again on that drive. Wha!?
  • Week 7: Northern Colorado @ UC Davis
Not sure why the Bears didn't kick the field goal. Oh well, better for us.
  • Week 7: Northern Colorado @ UC Davis
I have to believe he was trying to throw it out of bounds, but...
  • Week 7: Northern Colorado @ UC Davis
Is UNC athletics modeled after Berkeley? Bears. blue & Gold. et al?
  • Week 7: Northern Colorado @ UC Davis
Thanks, Movielover. I'm sure that's not the half of it. I miss just about everything about the campus and the town. Last time I was there? 2017. Longest I've been away. Cue the ukuleles.
  • Week 7: Northern Colorado @ UC Davis
I envy you guys for being able to go to the games regularly. Not easy to get there from Honolulu, so I have never been to the stadium. Last game I saw was at Toomey Field, But at least I get to see the games live on ESPN+. Go Ags!
  • Bob Dunning Makes His Case for UCD to Move to FBS
I wonder how much the alumni have to do with teams moving up to the higher division, not only in football but other sports. It's an ego extension thing "I went to the University of Football and they're great." I wasn't even in favor of the move to Div. I. For those older among us, I think this might be a common opinion, but as the younger generations age, I can see the day come when they pressure the school to move to the FBS, but I agree with everything posted here: Pac-12 not at all likely, MWC not a good fit, etc. On the broadest scale, the entire future of college football is like a broken crystal ball: not visible.
  • FCS Polls Following Week 6
I find national polls troubling for the following reasons:

    1. No one person can possibly cover all of the games and teams playing well enough to make am informed decision.A school's reputation thus is often too big a factor.
    2. The polls are set at the start of the season, which gives teams at the top an advantage and teams who might be very good a serious disadvantage, depending on their schedule. They should wait at least three weeks into the season before doing any voting.
    3. For a team to move up in the polls, teams ranked ahead of them have to lose or play a bad game against a weak opponent. It's conceivable to have, say, five undefeated teams in which #5 is the best. Under the old FBS system, that meant they had no chance for the playoffs, so it's good that in the FCS teams get a chance to win the national title on the field.
    4. No matter what the voters might say, a blow-out victory by one team gives that team a psychological edge in the polls that is not necessarily reflective of the quality of the team.

Don't mind me, I'm just venting. I've felt this way for about 50 years now.
  • Week 6: UC Davis @ Idaho State
Thanks RiverAggie. I stand corrected, but it means that they should have seen what he could do, although I see he had a much better game against us than against Northern Arizona.
  • Week 6: UC Davis @ Idaho State
The defense wasn't great either. To emulate CA Forever, I don't want to be too harsh, but I put most of the fault on the D-line. Even though the secondary made some great plays on the ball, they gave Hays too much time in the pocket and he picked us apart. The D-line never got enough pressure and was unable to stop the ISU running backs at the point attack. It didn't help that they didn't know how good Hays was. For a freshman starting his first game, against a top 10 team, no less, you have to give the kid a ton of credit.

Sometimes the better team loses to a team that just plays better. So much psychology involved in sports.
  • Week 6: UC Davis @ Idaho State
Never say die. I was at the 1972 against what was then Cal State Hayward and UCD was down by 15 with 2 minutes to go. Bob Biggs led them to two TDs and 2 2-pt. conversions for the win, but I had left the game. I haven't given up on the Aggies ever since.
  • Week 6: UC Davis @ Idaho State
Assuming the Ags score here, do you think they'll try an onside kick?
  • Week 6: UC Davis @ Idaho State
Idaho State clearly wants this more than the Ags do.
  • Week 6: UC Davis @ Idaho State
Fourth Quarter: Aggie time. What was our scoring advantage? Something like 62-0. No more chances to win this one.
  • Week 6: UC Davis @ Idaho State
    Right call, though.
  • Week 6: UC Davis @ Idaho State
How about a 99 yard touchdown play?
  • Week 6: UC Davis @ Idaho State
At least Hays is now missing some of his passes.
  • Week 6: UC Davis @ Idaho State
That's a real morale crusher. Just when it looked like the offense had something going... Defense has to step up and get momentum back.
