I turned off the sound. Their play-by-play guy is the most irritating one I've ever heard. Never thought I'd wish for a color guy. It's aggravating enough that we're getting whipped in every aspect except blocked shots. We've missed way too many bunnies.

    Phantom foul called on Eli!

Good to see the guys take a heavy punch early and come back to make a game of this. Still need to keep the Anteaters of their offensive boards.

Horrible start in almost every way. UCI already has 11 rebounds. Ugly.

I hope Losé is okay as well. If not, though not wanting to place an onus on the young man, lots of athletes have played with a broken rib, using a flak jacket or some such protection to prevent further injury and just sucking up the pain. I've broken my ribs four times and, although I am no hero, I was able to play basketball with them and with no flak jacket, hoping that I wouldn't aggravate it. Was that stupid? Sure, but that was how much I enjoyed playing (and would still be playing if my creaky old body would let me). At the same time, I didn't have to oppose a coach or trainer who was looking out for my interest and not wanting the team to suffer by having a less than 100% player on the court.

Does anyone know how many seats the old Men's gym had? Every game that wasn't during Winter break was a full house. My very first game I couldn't even get in, so I started going a half hour early. The enrollment was a fourth of what it is now. It was a Division 2 team. I never recalled any publicity from the University and all the FWC league games were on Friday/Saturday. I can't think of any good reason why students would not want to go the game. Well, I can think of one reason why the games were packed in my day: admission was free with a student card.

Matadors only had 5 assists the whole game. Wright doing a lot of free lancing for his points and he had 0 assists. Good to see DeBruhl step it up on both offense and defense. He and Ade controlled Wright a little in the second half, but Ade needs to show more confidence in his offense. Odd, I find, because he was doing more on the road last week.

Borra must be in the doghouse. I don't think he's hurt, but he hasn't played a single minute in the last two games.

DeBruhl needs to look to score. He only attempted one shot in the first half. Hardly replacing what we lost with Ty.

Somebody suggest a box and one, not on Pepper but the Ags on Wright. Between him and the sloppy passing by the Aggies, this game is a lot closer than it could be/should be. Coach Les said that he needs to "introduce" Wright to his team so they know how to find him.

You're right. I just looked it up.

I guess that Ty has yet to be suspended and will play tonight? It seems like part of his behavior recently has been due to his own frustration at not playing well in the last 2-3 games. I hope he channels that energy into playing better instead of baiting the other team.

Maybe the NCAA should change its rules.

It just occurred to me that to be really fair, the league (if it carries out both suspensions) should suspend the two for the rematch on March 2. Any suspensions prior to that penalizes both teams while benefitting any opponents they will play. I wonder if any Big West people have thought of that?

Being a Cal fan, I've seen Kelly play a lot and he is sorely missed by the Golden Bears. In all those years, I never saw a hint that would predict the way he acted toward Ty on Saturday. I really appreciated the post from Gauchofreg, whose perspective seems very objective and laudable. I hope Gaucho fans get a new color guy by next year.

Seems unfair to me because Ty was the victim and was simply defending himself, but then I am biased.

    I assume that's Metzger-Johnson grabbing at Andre Kelly's head?

Yeah, the UCSB color guy and former coach was getting to me, too. He acted like he was in charge of the game, telling us what the teams should be doing instead of explaining or clarifying what he saw. Plus he was probably the most biased guy I've heard in all of the Ag's Big West away games.

I'm guessing that what Metzger-Jones is guilty of is something he said that we coudn't hear, but there's a good chance we'll never know.

I was posting on the wrong discussion group. Getting senile. I saw most of the game that was not cut off by ESPN's technical difficulties. It's clear that the Gauchos are abetter team, but the Ags did themselves no favors by playing poor defense for a large stretch of the second half and did not have enough in the tank to come all the way back from being down by as much as 21. Mitchell and Pierre-Louis killed us after Wishart got off to a roaring start then cooled off. Andre Kelly was not much of a factor until he decided to pick on a much smaller guy. I was surprised at his lack of class, but I suspect Ty is the kind of guy who can get under your skin. The rematch in Davis could be interesting.
