• Week 6: UC Davis @ North Dakota
We have a number of wide receivers who are three and two star recruits, higher regarded out of high school than Doss. How did Doss develop his skills? Did he figure it out on his own? We don’t have a coach who’s played receiver. And on the subject of player development, how is it that Doss increased some of his performance metrics like his 40 yard time after he got through playing for us?
We have to grow our own players. Take offensive linemen for example. Other teams routinely bring in players who are 6’5” - 6’7” and they bulk up. We’ve had one player who matched that description, added significant weight and that’s Colton Lamson who came in at 235lb and added 50lbs. We’ve had offensive linemen who’ve been highly regarded spend years here and never get big enough to earn playing time, sitting at 260 lbs.
  • Week 6: UC Davis @ North Dakota
if your offense suffers in year three of a rebuilding process because you lose one wide receiver, and return almost all other receivers, that’s sad.
  • Week 6: UC Davis @ North Dakota
Doss and Moe loss is no big deal. Simple percentages show most teams lose 25% percent of their starters every year, probably more than that due to seniors playing a bigger role than other classes. Good players yes, but neither was drafted, so it’s not as if they were extraordinary even for this school.
We’ll have a bigger issue next year with graduated players
  • Week 6: UC Davis @ North Dakota
We thought we would be better than this but each of these games is now a near thing. If we’re on an even keel like Hawkins preaches and we’re playing a team where we’re their focus for the year it’s tough.
  • Week 6: UC Davis @ North Dakota
I’m seeing a pattern, Weber in 2017, Eastern in 2018, Montana this year.
We get pushed around in big games. If we really are up for the game we can compete, but it’s a near thing, not much margin for error.
  • Week 6: UC Davis @ North Dakota
Their defensive numbers last week look good compared to ours
  • Montana Game
This is far from the first root sports broadcast and if they cant interface with Pluto one would think that would be a known fact.
  • Montana Game
For the second time this season our home game is not available to watch as a replay on the big sky site. It seems all the other home games of Big Sky teams are. Something to do with facilities?
  • Montana Game
Surprising that we are ahead of Eastern Washington
  • Montana Game
Everyone that starts on the Oline except Jordan Ford were starters all of 2018 except Will Martin who was the returning starter at center but injured in first game 2018. Jordan Ford started at Guard for first time against NDSU, in what had been Will Martins spot at guard. Conner Pettek was injured that game so Will went in at his familiar center spot. So we have one new player who is a redshirt freshman, a highly regarded recruit in 2018 starting but not because of injury but by virtue of having earned the start when everyone was healthy.
Last year we had a lot of shuffling of the line to get new, presumably better players starting. If we’re ineffective it may be a development issue.
PS I do notice that our o-line while fairly heavy doesn’t have the real tall and big guys that Montana has. Montana has a new guard from a jc who weighs 350lb and was the eighth ranked JC offensive line recruit nationally. We may not be able to get some players. I notice Weber accepts 100% of their applicants so they can enroll anyone.

From the UC Davis Football Facebook page:

"Football fans, ROOT Sports is experiencing technical issues pushing its stream to Pluto TV. Thank you for your patience; you can listen to this game on Sports 1140 KHTK, or online through TuneIn Radio at the station's page."
The above explanation doesn’t make sense. If it was a game time issue with the feed, it wouldn’t cause the channel to not be listed on Pluto. I hope it gets added to big sky conference replay list but expect it won’t.
  • FCS Games of Note: Week 5
it would be a travesty for Davis to be ranked in the top 10, and it’s not going to happen. Losing by two touchdowns to two good teams is our only claim to be good; but they were still relatively one sided losses and we were outplayed pretty bad in the second half. The close win over San Diego is a negative. Lehigh win doesn’t impress because of who they are. Davis not even a clear favorite to win next week against UND. An objective observer might not rank us in the top 20,
  • Montana Game
Since we had almost the entire offensive unit back from last year except for Doss and one lineman, that the offense would be at least as good as last year’s. That potential hasn’t been realized. We’ve taken a step back with mostly the same personnel.

Coach Hauck, in pregame press conference in Montana, responded to a question about his teams innovative plays by saying that they also still had “meat and potatoes” football. The Aggies didn’t in this game.
  • Montana Game
Last home game, Lehigh, Pluto was unusable early in the game and never showed up on the replay list on the big sky site. All the other Big Sky home games could be watched on replay. So what gives? Why do we get the consistently bad result? Something to do with local techs, contracts, facilities or what? The game notes said it would be on Pluto.
  • The FCS National Outlook
Going to Oregon is a good choice I’d you can’t get into Davis.
Maybe they hate us because we’re egotistical.
  • The FCS National Outlook
Oregon is anti California because they’re anti growth, but how come we see all those Oregon fans with the big O signs on their windows living down here?

It’s fun to listen to the opposing team broadcast sometimes. At one point their commentator thought he knew we were going to run based on the formation having receivers lined up on the line of scrimmage where they wouldn’t be eligible to receive a pass. We did run in the plays he mentioned and gained some positive yardage. He speculated our coaches had seen something to exploit against NDSU and this was an in game adjustment.
