• Looking Ahead to the 2024 Football Season Discussion
Under Gould, our team was not prepared for competition coming out of camp. We would lose the first 4 games or so every year. Hawk’s teams were better prepared coming out of camp. I like how Plough has weekly updates, and from everything i can ascertain, it looks like our guys will be ready to rumble 8/31. Looking forward to attending the football preview tonight.

Is that podcast available now? I don’t see it on Spotify

The Plough boys get an oscar! I was watching them through most of the video. Cute kids!

Another homerun with Plough’s interview. And as many of us have speculated, Miles is the starter!

Maier was throwing the ball when we were running the high tempo offense under Plough. Maier had a real quick release. I don’t think Miles has the quick trigger. Can he read the defense and hit the right guy in the accelerator mode? I’m rooting for him to be successful. And moving forward, it looks like we have some real talent in the QB room.

Ok, thanks for the correction. The roster lists him as a senior.

Anxious to see how this team matches up this year with some stiff competition. There are two players in particular, aside from the “stars,” that I’m looking forward to watching. Matteo Perez is going into his senior year. He’s been in Lan’s shadow. I’ve always liked his running. I hope he has a break out year. Mitchell Dixon, moving from QB to TE, 6’4”, supposed to have good hands, 40 yard dash 4.9 (old data). I’m hoping he can be a deep threat.

I really enjoyed the interview with Lan. Great example of Aggie Pride!

    “ - we don't go deep
    - we sometimes even struggle w midrange game
    - our QBs typically aren't mobile
    - our gadget plays are even predictable
    - we run a LOT on 1st down”

Exactly. Last year i mentioned the lack of a long game to Mike Cody. His comment was that you open up your qb to punishment vs the ball control short passes. Obviously to get it down field, you need an accurate slinger and a receiver with good speed and hands. I’m hoping Plough puts those pieces together.

Regarding the Miles discussion on the podcast. I still think he’s going to be the starter, or at least it’s his position to lose. The big question in my mind though with the high tempo shredville offense, is quick ball release. Maier had a really fast release when he played the high tempo game. Miles doesn’t seem to have that quick release. Can this be learned? The qb also needs to be able to quickly find the open secondary go to guy if the play gets busted up. Anxious to see all this play out on the field.

Plough has said he won’t be playing the musical QB game. He’s going to have one guy based on his own comments. I’m hoping to get to a practice next week. I’d like to sit in on the QB room and the receiver room. It will be interesting to see if there’s a room full of QBs.

Looking forward, it would be cool to expand the podcast during basketball season to incorporate a hoops discussion.

The QB room. Who do we have ready to go, what’s their skill set (scramble, long ball, etc), whose going to get the nod?
  • Dan Hawkins joins Cody's staff at Idaho State
Wow. He must be off our payroll now.

I’m still thinking Miles is going to get the call.

First play in the game from the Ags under Plough. Will it be something safe like a handoff to LL, or a Shredville sort of play to spread things out? No huddle offense?

I thought the stats were documented by the offensive quality control guy. That position is now not listed on our website, but they have two quality control persons listed for D.

Everybody will be gunning for him. Maybe that opens up the pass game.

Yeah, last year was a good example of leaving the starter(s) in when we had a comfortable lead. One thing that is clear to me, Plough is a competitor. Winning is important to him. I’m anxious to see how this all correlates to play on the field, especially against Big Sky elite.

I think Miles is going to be the man. And Plough told me we won’t see a 2 qb system. His words were, “if you have 2 qbs and don’t have a qb.”
I’m hoping he opens up the position rooms again to visitors this summer. I would encourage folks to attend. The mechanics that go into the daily practices are totally impressive.
