  • Tim Plough Named New UC Davis Head Football Coach

From what I’ve seen from tweets from recruits, they usually reference position coaches and not the head coach. I think its honorable that Coach Plough is fulfilling his Cal responsibilities through the bowl game.

Be thankful you’re not in Missoula tonight. They're playing in a total white out.

I only caught part of the msu game but it sounded like they had 2 qbs go down. The blocked FG reminded me of our loss to ewu.

“ Hawkins hired Plough before the 2017 season to inject new offensive life into an Aggies program that had suffered five consecutive losing seasons after decades of success. Plough was the Aggies assistant head coach and offensive coordinator in 2019 and 2020, unleashing a wide-open offense designed to stretch and buckle defenses. It became known by players and coaches as “Shredville.”

This is what we’ve been missing. I’m looking forward to see what we have talent wise next year and how Coach Plough uses that talent. I guess i had forgot that the term “shedville” had its origins with Plough. And was it Plough that was responsible for the high tempo no huddle schemes that were successful for us?

Well, this is a great opportunity for him. Go Ags!

    I’d like to think Matt Coombs had a lot to do with our success on defense this last year. Pre-season, my wife and i arrived early to the football team aggie event and Matt was the first person to greet us. We had an informative football conversation and in spite of his very youthful appearance, it was obvious that he is sharp as a tack and a “Davis guy.” Here’s what Hawk had to say about him;

"When we talk about 'Davis Guys,' people ask what we mean by that," said Hawkins. "But he gets it. He gets the well-roundedness of it. That's important here, and it's important to have coaches who relate and identify with our players and their goals and aspirations. That includes playing championship football, but it might also include studying plant biology in Borneo. Having a guy who gets that is important here. He's just a really good fit."

"Just like in recruiting, it's all about fit," said Hawkins. "He went to Yale, so he understands education and that component. He's used to winning, so he expects to win and knows how to win. He has worked in a similar defensive structure that we run, so he can take that and add and polish and put his spin on it."

Unfortunately you cant get pac12 with directv. If you have directv, you’ll need to use one of the streaming services.

For what it’s worth, Coach Plough’s current salary at Cal is $270,000 plus bonus. Cost of living in the bay area would make a similar buck stretch further in Davis. I’m assuming he has a young family. Moving kids from their school and friends would certainly be part of the decision making process.

For kicks i was trying to find Moroski’s salary but the numbers i found were ridiculously low.

Regarding the signing period and portal, I expect we hear the choice within a week of Hawk’s announcement. It would seem prudent that Rocko addresses the team and provide some sort of assurance that the sky is not falling.

“ Would Chris Peterson be interested in coaching again? Davis doesn't have the time commitment of UW, and he could come back home. That would be a blockbuster hire.”

It would be a block buster hire but at UW he was making north of 4.8M. I can’t imagine him dropping down to FCS for ~300k/yr.

I bet we know within a week or less. And regarding the portal, when Taylor left, as i recall several of his players hit the portal.

Well, here’s the quote from Rocko in the Bee article. Maybe he has to say that?

“It’s an open search,” DeLuca said. “We have a great tradition with UC Davis football and Hawk has done a great job elevating the program. Our goal is to find someone to take the ball from the fullback and keep going forward. We’ll have interest in the position. We’re one of the top FCS programs in the country and we’re not backing down from our goal of winning championships and national championships.

“We’re going to move as fast as we can, but also take the time to make sure.”

Wasn’t it Plough who was behind the high tempo offense? Did he use that at Cal? And I wonder what the issue was for him at Boise?
