Interesting choice. He doesn't stand out in my mind as an elite coach, but he certainly has worked as an assistant to several high end coaches.

When I think back about 2014-2015 and this last season, in many of the games we lost, we either were leading at half time or still in the game. But Gould got out coached with adjustments nearly every game by the opposing team. I don't believe we will see that happen with Hawk. I am full of anticipation for spring training and next season. I just might have to plan a trip down to San Diego to see the inaugural game.

In the old days, the games were almost universally at 7 unless it was a tv game or playoffs. Everyone knew. With the new stadium, they move the early fall games to the evening because of the heat, then they get earlier as the weather cools. But students should not have to "work" to figure out when the game is and what kind of fun they will have if they attend. This is clearly a marketing problem. Every business and bulletin board on campus should have a big poster with the specifics.

I used a few online cost of living comparison tools. Moving from Bozeman to Davis is on the order of a 65% increase in cost of living. Move to Dixon and it is around 28%. And as many of you know, UCD across the board is not known for paying big salaries compared to other institutions. But people still come here.

Sears, HC at suck, makes $176,000. One factor if comparing assistant salaries to those at other fcs schools is the cost of living here is significantly higher.

I just asked some of my students what they thought of his idea to fill the stands back up with students, that is, to shoot T shirts with cash into the stands. They laughed, and said all that is needed is to start winning games. One of my seniors said the last game he went to was 2 years ago and the Aggies got destroyed. It just wasn't fun. The fun is going to start again. Not sure we will have a winning season next year, but I am confident that the team will be prepared for each game, and that the games will be managed properly - time clock management, 2 minute management, and not settling for a FG when we need a TD.

This is going to be a long wait for next season.
