Just watched the video. He certainly knows the big sky. As i watched it, i wondered about what kind of competition we are going to have for the QB position? Hawk is bringing in a combo of seasoned pros and youth. I think the players will easily identify with a guy like Plough. I like whast i see.

    • Coming off one of the most successful offensive seasons in school history where NAU changed its offense to a pro style/no-huddle philosophy, Plough coached quarterback Case Cookus to FCS STATS Freshman Player of the Year honors, in addition to winning the Jerry Rice Award and other numerous All-American accolades. Cookus broke an 11-year old NCAA FCS freshman record for most touchdown passes in a season; including setting a new school record. He had the fewest interceptions in the FCS by any quarterback with 3,000 or more passing yards.

    • During Plough’s first year as offensive coordinator, NAU had the 11th best offense in the FCS. The Lumberjacks ranked first in team passing efficiency (180.18), seventh in scoring offense (39.3), eighth in passing offense, and eighth in red zone offense (89.8).

    Sounds good to me!
  • Coach Gould
Still no new job for Coach Gould?movielover

His Twitter page has been fairly quiet. After that one article in Scout about him going to Fresno, I haven't heard anything new.

Someone mentioned the assistance have contracts that expire at year end, sogoaggs1

If it is true that donations are covering the expense of the new hires, maybe they are going to just let the original assistants work out their contracts and help smooth transition(?).

looks like my wife and i will be at the san diego state game.

We might catch it as well.

Last time I remember playing them at home they came in 10-0 and scored with a minute left to take the lead. We then scored quickly and shut them out of the playoffsPortlandAggie

Maybe the game I was thinking of was in SD. They had a dynamite QB (Truillo ?) , ha, but glad we didn't play them this year!

Have we played San Diego before?movielover

Yes. I think we are leading them, but I will never forget them coming to Davis and beating us in the new stadium. Harbaugh might have been the coach. They had a first class QB who could really laser the ball where he wanted.

EWU tries to lateral their way to the end zone but come up short... devastating loss for the Eagles. It will be James Madison and Youngstown State going to Frisco to battle it out for the championship.CA Forever

I thought EW was in total control, then it seemed the momentum started to shift. Both teams deserved to be there. But YSU just kept grinding away. Success builds success. A team down on their luck might have just given up, but those guys kept plugging away, and made it happen. That endzone reception was incredible. I never saw it in any highlights which surprised me.

I love the SacBee headline: UC Davis women pound Sac State 110-78 in Causeway CupPortlandAggie

That caught my eye this morning as well. You just never see the Bee saying anything positive about UC Davis, and you never see them putting Slac down.

Reasonable comments. And the fact that we have not named the OC yet, is why I put out the link. He's in the neighborhood already. I must admit, I don't know much about him.

On the US national team, the offensive coordinator was Paul Wulff, current OC for Suc State. He was there with Tucker and Hawkins: https://usafootball.com/blogs/robert-tucker/post/10274/2015-u.s.-men%E2%80%99s-national-team-coaching-staff-announced-for-ifaf-world-championship-in-canton,-ohio-
And we know what he did for Suc last year.

And really so far that's all seemed to be the case with this staff -- he's pulling in veterans with a lot of experience and generally past histories of success on and off the field. If the criticism in regards to Coach Pete and BSU are true though then that implies to me that Speckman is going to have a lot of freedom to install the fly as little or much as he sees fitZander

Beyond what they end up doing with the offense, the Hawkins hire has generated tremendous excitement and support from alumni. While I don't know what the dollar figure is, to have all the assistants paid through donor contributions is huge. And collectively, these guys have a tremendous amount of football knowledge. They are not going to implement a pop warner offense that can not work at this level. After all, THIS IS DIVISION 1 FOOTBALL, lol.

They will not be stumped. This reminds me a lot of my days at UCD with Biggs, Arp, Lou, Moroski and the rest with 10-20+ years each.Bige70

Amen to that. I remember games with Sochor (as a fan, not player) where we were loosing at half. We would sit back and wonder what the "old fox" had up his sleeve for the second half. He rarely got out coached. This is one area that has "befuddled" me during the Gould era. Seems like we would be competitive in a lot of games for one half, then get out foxed in the second.

well, i'm all for something different. It appears this offense does not rely on big guys to create holes, but oppotunity to find slots opening up from the spread. Why isnt it more popular if it works?
