• I guess I'm not really done. Sorry for the rant.
Sac’s baseball program is going great. Multi 30 win seasons; this year 40. Regionals winner. A vastly better program than we have going now. Time for AD Blue to pick up Aggie baseball with some facilities and program improvements. We have done WSB And WFH improvements which is a great accomplishment, but we need Aggie baseball to rise up. We used to be a great BB school, now not so. Much. Why?
  • Morgan Bertsch to Play in Russia
Wow, WNBA pays less than what Morgan could have earned as a starting biomedical engineer. Median BME starting salary: $53,800. WNBA: $49,440. Where ever Morgan goes she will do very well. Love that gal. Morgan just don't get too chummy with Vladimir.
  • Bad press for the Band-Uh!
This is going to be a tough investigation for the attorney who takes on this task. Because there are many, many Banduh alums who will write about all the good things their band membership did for them personally. Yes, there will be some obviously who will write differently, but I think in the end the Band will come out of this OK. So no one was killed. Raped or beaten. Mostly hurt feelings, but thats not good either. We have to stop that.
But basically, my view is that college band controversies are actually very, very funny. Let’s take the Tree vs. the Cal Band. The Stanford Tree is universally regarded and hated as the worst mascot in the country, but Stanford students love their tree. The Cal Band hates the tree with a passion. I recall at Picnic Day not too long ago at the Battle of the Bands, the Tree got too hot and went to the van to remove the Tree suit. Cal BAND broke into the van and stole the Tree suit. Charges filed. No outcome.suspensions . Then at a later Cal event a very inebriated Tree intimidated and outraged Oski to the extend that Oski fake peed on the Tree. Turned out the Tree had a bottle of vodka inside her suit. Suspension. Later, the Tree with help from the Stanford Band attacked Oski and removed his head showing the face of the student. This was a gross violation of the 100 year old Cal rule that Oski was to be forever “unknown”. Suspensions again. Need i go on? This is not “kids will be kids” thing it is that some shy, insecure, but very artistically talented young adults go thru a late bonding and maturation process that draws them to something like the community of the Banduh. It is good for them. Fix it don't kill it.
  • Bad press for the Band-Uh!
The great bee of yore, investigational pioneers against the big banks and the big 5 railroads of the 1890’s, now frantically yipping at the heels of a nerd college band. Sad. Basically, what newspapers have to do now if they need a story (and they have a college close by) is go to the college newspaper, which the bee did. The Aggie did this not the poor bee. So sad, the Stanford band, the cal band, USC band, the Poly band, and then us. Yes, a minor nerd college band problem, but really “front page”? But fire the Banduh? no way. . . . .
  • The good and bad of this season.
Good to know. Based on his record, I bet he got some “encouragement” that things have to get better fast when he was given that extension. Well they didn’t in 2019. We will see what a fairly young team now can do for him next year. That said, we have been through these 4 year rotations with Vaughn before and they have really never paid off. One fact I did not note before is that after Peters got to UCLA the team batting average gained 41 points! Ours fell. We will see. . .
  • The good and bad of this season.
Well, if we are “fully funded” we are out of excuses* for being one of the weakest baseball teams in the BWC. I believe that Matt Vaughn has had one winning season in the past 5 years (2015) and was 46-67 before that (I dont have those individual season stats handy). Compared to the previous head coach, Rex Peters, this is not an admirable record for a head coach. Peters is now an assistant coach at UCLA which is the number 1 seed in its regionals. I have no idea where Vaughn is contract-wise, but it would seem a coaching review is probably definitely in order for this coach.
    * i guess we can still blame lack of lighting for this situation, but its getting pretty weak at this point. Strange it is, as UC Davis has a great facility and used to field very good baseball teams.
  • Bad press for the Band-Uh!
I Get it. A bit more complicated than I thought. But the point that must be acknowledged is that the Band is still very popular with the students and the community. Didn’t BWC ban the band from away games because it was so formidable a foe in the opposition gym.? That’s big.
  • Bad press for the Band-Uh!
If they wanted to, the band could just start a petition signed by all who agree that this is all just a bunch of BS and let it go at that. Of course with a clear statement that it was not done with any coercion. Is this just too simple? Probably. . . . However, I do think that the Alumni may be a problem and they should just butt out of the bands activities. Why do they want to hang lout with a bunch of 18-20 year olds? A bit creepy don’t you think?
  • Bad press for the Band-Uh!
I must agree with 09’s account. The Aggie article was almost ridiculous in its effort to create a “dirty, prurient” story out of very little evidenced based facts. Of course, newspapers love this stuff. Nothing like “A Naked Van” story as a leader. It seems every college band in California is a potential great source for this kind of story. Kind of sad.
  • Bertsch drafted by the Dallas Wings
Wow. Megan Gustafson Big Ten player of the year and Morgan Bertch Big West player of the year both waived by the Dallas Wings. BGA is right on, too much completion at the WNBA level for these great players, especially when you try and move a 5 player to a 3 position they have never played in their entire careers. Dallas drafting moxie not so good????
  • WR Theo Goodwin - Nevada Transfer
good point! I think that is true.
  • WR Theo Goodwin - Nevada Transfer
Not only is he fast, he is the fastest Aggie ever in my memory. A 10.6 is NFL top 10 fast. I saw that he was a RS at NR. Does that means he’s OK for next year? Remember Renaldo Nehemiah? He did a WR 12.93 in the 110 meter HH. 49ers drafted him as a WR and he was OK mostly because he would make the D always put double coverage on him because of his speed. But he did catch some passes. Hopefully, Theo will do great as an Aggie.
  • The good and bad of this season.
So, how do we know that?
  • The good and bad of this season.
Is there an on line info source showing what sports are versus sports that are are not fully funded? I doubt that Fullerton just made this up. He seems to be very well informed.
  • The good and bad of this season.
We are struggling again this year as most predicted. But we are a young team so the future does look to be better. Our stadium facility is great, except for lack of lights. Did we ever get covered cages? UCI’s stadium is about the same except for the lights it has. So UCI can host NCAA playoffs and we cannot. I wonder if that is a recruiting problem? I know it was all wired up for the lights decades ago, but never got the $$ for the actual lights. Is there any news on that issue? We seem to pour a lot more money into football and the Olympic sports that into baseball. Orphaned sport it seems.
  • Long Beach St Sharks - new mascot
72 it does look like the horse head logo is being phased out in favor of the lemon logo which I do very much prefer. Hard to find the horse head anymore anywhere, but maybe on some old unis still.
  • Enterprise Article: New Student-Athlete Practice Field and Performance Center
I think that Blue is correct in stating that because of all the different people who will be involved in this building it has to be perfectly planned. I am a bit confused as to how much of the UC Davis sports medicine practice is coming to this location. I know it has multiple locations in Davis and in Sac as I have sadly been there but always grateful for the result. So you have the Aggie athletes there, the public there for treatment, the big gym for many to use, and the study area. Thats a lot of divergent interests for one building. Yes, I say take the time to do this right.
  • I guess I'm not really done. Sorry for the rant.
I remember when we had the “Super Fan” probably 15-20 years ago. He was a big guy and would sit wearing his Michigan “M” hat behind the visitors dugout and lob all kinds of insults and negative stuff at the opposing team and the umpires. Then he was gone. I think he was an accountant. He just went away. He was obnoxious but very funny and he was a big Aggie fan! Anyone know where he went?
Anyway, GoAgs, he was here way before you and he took all kinds of S**t from the fans and the umpires, but he never let it get to him like it has apparently got to you.. you know everything is not personal.
  • MBB Signs 3 New Players
I agree with Blue. A lot of athleticism with him that is not currently present on the team. Jumps like he has titanium springs in his legs. Born in Nigeria. Wasn’t Chima also originally from Nigeria?
