• MBB Signs 3 New Players
Absolutely correct BGA. I think Les knows this as well. Trouble is: finding one. Not easy task.
  • Cal Poly NCAA Suspension - Ridiculous!
Been a rough year for Poly. Seems every few months something pops up in the press about something bad happening there. i sure wouldn’t put them in same category as USC, but once the bad stories start coming they just do not seem to stop. Have to feel sorry for the kids there.
  • Where’s the new equestrian coach?
As expected, we did not do well at the Nationals in TX this week. It was an interesting note in the ongoing “student admission fraud” case much in the news, that I noticed why the involved students (all woman) were always in the “minor sports category otherwise known as Olympic sports.” That is crew, soccer, tennis, etc. the NYT article said that these sports have become known in the TIX world as “balance point sports”. So the allegations are that these subject universities were very vulnerable to the fraud of Mr. Singer because they needed and wanted extra woman players on these teams to effectuate big rosters on woman’s teams to actually benefit the very largest men’s programs where they are all very vulnerable to TIX investigation: Football. That said, I have noted that TAM has 60 woman on its equestrian team for 12 scholarships. A bit dicey to say the least, when TAM has one of the largest collegiate ICA men’s programs in the country. Hope we don’t go down that road.
  • 2020 Recruiting List
Agree, but as a footnote Sac hasn’t gotten any of Folsom’s best players. Ags even got their coaches second son. So now two Richardsons are Aggies. I wish the best for Sac until they play the Ags then its all gloves off. I really like the way the Hawk has taken this Aggie team to a new level. It’s a combination of a great staff, excellent recruiting and a very good and an almost charismatic coach in the Hawk IMHO. It’s just great to watch the process.
  • Keelan Doss draft hype
On May 3, 1983 the NYT lead article on (and local TV) Kenny O’Brian was: “Ken Who From Cal Where”. I was in an upstate NY bar that night when this was announced. I made the mistake of saying I was from California and had seen Ken play and that he was really, really good. A remark that was very much not well received by the locals. I actually got a lot of verbal abuse and felt like I had to back out of the bar like in one of those old western movies with broken bottle in hand. I got in my rental and left the parking lot and guess what happened next: flashing blue lights on me. Then “step out of the car slowly put hands on the top of the car.” then: who are you and why are you here”. (This was in Utica NY- in upstate New York area and a very red necky area). I told them I was an attorney representing a local company in a civil case. That was good enough to get me off. Final point from the cop: my advice: stay out of that bar and go home to CA. Ken O’Brian went on to the greatness that is history.
  • Did Peter Snell run for UC Davis?
Amazing find 72. I had no idea he was here. Having a very brief and under whelming track career I would have loved to meet this guy. A true champion.
  • Keelan Doss draft hype
Niners would be crazy not to get him with an early pick, but my bet would be on the Raiders getting him first. Niners need some more very smart guys on the field and leaders in the locker room. KD will be an instant leader. Both on and off the field. I’m not saying he’s charismatic, but more like a Richard Sherman type guy. Respected. This is a quality that cannot be coached or developed. It just is there or is not. KD has it. RS would be an excellent mentor to him.
  • Bertsch drafted by the Dallas Wings
Well good but they didn’t get the major right. Not “biochemistry” but I will forgive. I do now wonder how we got Megan Jones. Do we have a basketball contact in the UK? We got Fuller and now Jones out of the UK. Maybe it’s just that Jen is now so well known internationally that we can get these great players.
  • Softball Continues to Roll (25-5) with Win Over Cal
I cannot understand how they lost that first game with Brooke throwing. Picnic Day jitters? No Brooke is unbelievable in the circle.
  • Bertsch drafted by the Dallas Wings
Thanks RB. Maybe when you have the time you could tell me how you do this. Obviously copying the whole article is not going to work per movie. I know how to email an article but not how to do what you did. My brother-in-law was a teacher at Santa Rosa HS when Morgan was playing there and he was a big WBB fan and had to attend many games as a monitor (I think you call it that). He says that Morgan was good in HS, but he never thought she would ever be good enough to go on to college BB, much less the WNBA. But Jen spotted something special. That point, I think is stressed, in this article. And, in the TV interview Morgan thanks Jen for coaching her through this very successful developmental process and Jen praises Morgan for her work ethic and strenuous effort to improve and then excel. Great combination. Great result. Recruits might want to read this article.
  • Bertsch drafted by the Dallas Wings
There is a great in-depth article about Morgan in the Santa Rosa Press Democrat (her home town paper) today. They are obviously very proud of her and there are many interesting facts in this article that have not been covered before.
Sorry. I have yet to learn how to copy news articles to this site. Maybe one of you out there can give me a lesson?
  • UCD Rugby - Be careful what you wish for...
Very typical cocky and poor response by a Berkeley Rugby player in a sport that is revered for its “sportsmanship” ideals (remember the beers after the game thing 20 years ago?- now: GONE!) The Cal players know very well how much better off they are than most rugby teams at the college level with their sizable endowment thanks to Dean Witter et. Al. Their own practice field and their own full time coach (which I don’t think any other rugby team in the US has). So Cal who is so good here and Then goes to Canada and plays the University of British Columbia and then gets totally trashed. Some day some alum will come along and say: enough it’s enough and donate some big money to help Aggie Rugby compete at this level. For now we just play along.
  • Bertsch drafted by the Dallas Wings
Great draft celebration for Morgan. She’s just so cool and confident. She will be a leader on that Dallas team both on the floor and in the locker room. By the way, my last post of my “fantasy team of 2019-20” did not include Kenedy Lily because I believe there is a 99% chance that Jen will RS her just like Morgan. She’s a real gem- no need to rush her IMHO.
  • Bertsch drafted by the Dallas Wings
Oldband, that clip of Megan Jones could have been Morgan. Uncanny, except she goes for the hair bob which Morgan never sported on the court. I think a team of Jones, Stobbart, Hall, Bessolo and Tripcic would be a very tough combination for the opposition to deal with; plus with very talented reserves in Konrad, McKweon, Song (who may start), and others. A Very formidable group!
  • Bertsch drafted by the Dallas Wings
Yes and she was VERY successful academically in a very demanding major!! Being selected to the BWC ALL-Academic team three times since 2016. 2019 not out yet. I think that she will do well in the WNBA, but if not Europe will be there for her. Her success will also be very helpful to Jens recruiting efforts in the future.
  • Bertsch drafted by the Dallas Wings
Congrats to Morgan! Your the best!
  • Keelan Doss draft hype
KD will be drafted for sure. What I am worried about is that with the Aggie connection with the Raiders, they will draft him first and then move to LV and we will lose sight of him. 49ers need to step up and draft this great local player for the great many reasons already stated. Selfish thoughts I know. But I do wish him well anywhere he goes.
  • Foreign Tennis Player Issues
Well, the very good Aggies men’s tennis team just got trounced by a UCSB team dominated by foreign born players (6 of 9). As noted above this happened to the Gals as well. UCSB just feels is has to win at any cost including its total non-support of U.S Tennis which is a dying breed by all accounts at this point in time. So of the 16 scholarships (men and woman) allowed to tennis 13 went to foreign players at UCSB. This is not a way to rebuild U.S. Tennis in my view; and it is not a fair allotment of UC athletic funds (which includes state funds) in any case. Again, I’m not in favor of a ban, but, please, can we just have some reasonable limits? Surprised the UCSB student aren’t a little pissed over this, not to mention the tennis parents of US born UCSB kids.
  • Looking Forward to 2019
As a vet i think that having Doug on our team will be a big asset just for the fact that dodging bullets is a lot harder than blocking in football. 82d AB pretty damn cool on your resume. He will be a leader on this team! Great recruiting by the Hawk!
