• UC Davis Baseball Team and Coaching Staff Suspended
I guess I was right. Bee says UC Davis BB team is now practicing. 72 can you help me link this story?
  • Week 6: UC Davis @ Idaho State
Just a simple question: who picks these guys? I realize that BD is an icon of sorts in Davis. We need better play by play guy. FAST!
  • Week 6: UC Davis @ Idaho State
Agree with all of that. One of the worst called games in a long while for me. Marsh and Dunning do the same thing. Big on Aggie legend and lore and bad on what is going on down on the field. And they go on blabbing about a play long over and miss what’s going on in front of them. I love BD but its time to give him a rest. Even his voice is going. Bad!
  • Week 5: Idaho @ UC Davis
So nobody doubts: TT won the game! He has to be our
MAGIC man! I just love this guy. . . .
  • Week 5: Idaho @ UC Davis
Yes. Simulated Americana. Great idea. Disney’s America. What a bunch of crap!
  • Week 5: Idaho @ UC Davis
My question is: who is the person who needs to ask the motor pool? Seems like there just no will to do this. Most people would say I am pretty liberal, but I am conservative when it comes to the love of cultural history and traditions. They are the glue that keeps us together. Anybody know who this person might be?
  • UC Davis Baseball Team and Coaching Staff Suspended
I was on campus this morning for the first time about 2 years. Just passing thru from a family reunion in Fair Oaks. Drove down by the Dairy Fields and there right by the soccer guys were about 20-25 guys throwing baseballs back and forth like you would see a regular team do warming up for a game. What could this be? I did not stop to check. I guess the Admin can’t stop guys from throwing baseballs if they want to. They were not at Dobbins. So don’t know. Maybe club team?
  • Week 5: Idaho @ UC Davis
Not to mention: The Tractor! I guess our entire College of Engineering could not figure out how to get this thing powered up again. So sad to see it go the way of the denim jumpers and milk cans. Progress? Not sure.
  • Week 5: Idaho @ UC Davis
I am also confused. We have a lot of mascots. Maggie. Gunrock. Maverick. An I missing someone? Magic? Sorry. He’s a player.. . . . .
  • New Covid Protocol - Vax or Neg Test required
Will we have metal detectors at the gates? Idaho is a no permit concealed carry state, i.e. anyone can carry a concealed weapon with very few exceptions. But I will assume that most concealed gun people are anti Vaxer’s anyway, so we should still keep them at bay with our vax requirement..
  • 21-22 WBB Scheduling News
Campbell Gray is on the official roster! That is a fantastic recovery from her ACL injury. And we need her defense and help in bringing the ball down the court. Great news!
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
Great news. HR is a tough gamer. Hope he clears medical.
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
So, I gather no concussion? If there was, isn’t he required to sit out a game? Totally a medical decision by the team doctor.
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
This was a great game to watch. HR was off. LL wasn’t on his game that much. But the team won. i was very impressed with MH at QB coming in cold. That is a very hard thing for an athlete to do. He won the game. You give the ball to TT inside the 5 and its a TD!. It’s a. Very good time to be an Aggie now. I think this team has a bit of a destiny about it.
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
I agree. Dropped probably twenty? Can I do that? Or should I say I can do that? Wife laughed and left the room. No confidence whatsoever. Go Chubba. Send us your secret menus.
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
Can we take Pint to this game at Weber? He would work for both sides with equal pay. It would be the ultimate “Good JuJu” to have this sentient being (dog) apply his spirit to the game. He will not play favorites, but just have the game a fair one. Spoiler Alert: I think the Aggies should travel with the dog food.
  • Should Cheer Leading be an Olympic Sport?
There is a fascinating (and perversely funny) article in todays NYTs about the growing problem of “Cheer Moms.” Remember the “Soccer Moms” of the ‘90s? Well according to this article the Cheer Moms have taken up their place in a very big way. This is not what you think about cheer leading. There is no Rah-rah. No go team go. In fact, no team at all. It is mostly very pushy moms pushing their daughters into cheer camps and competitions that are mostly about full face make up, lipstick and glitter. Lots of glitter and jumping around starting at the early ages of something 5-6 years old. According to the article this brand of cheer is second only to football in concussions. And no, its not a NCAA sport. It is not covered by T9. Interesting that one of the leading experts in this area is Dr. Laura Grindstaff, professor of sociology at U.C. Davis and she is quoted at some length in the article. She is not a fan. Sorry I can’t link it. Maybe someone else can.
  • We're Number 40!!!
72 are college rankings kinda like sports polling? Look long enough and you’ll find one you like. USNews has UCSB ranked number 5 and we at 10. Then WSJ comes out and we are at 3 just behind UCB and UCLA. How can this be so? Far different criteria for sure. USNews is very big on alumni giving, endowments size, faculty reputation, all the flashy stuff that few public’s can compete with. I guess UCSB can. But, as I see it the WSJ is much more based on outcomes for the students, not how many Nobels on a campus. How many undergrads did Oppenheimer or Lawrence teach while they were discovering new elements at Berkeley? I would say none, yet Berkeley still benefits from all this stuff. In no way do I mean to demean Berkeley (wife) for this, but still the USNews model does not sufficiently reflect student outcomes which I feel are much more important.
  • Are there really no/so few branded UC Davis masks available to purchase?
Maybe Bob Dunning is right. We are just not “BIG TIME” enough to be able to sell or design a lot of this stuff. Who cares? We serve a great purpose at the FCS giving a lot of players the ability to play top level football. Our Olympic sports are incredible. We have a very good PR image as a university. People love UC Davis. Just not our STUFF that much. Again: who cares! IMHO.
  • Week 3: Dixie State at UC Davis
Sorry old band alumni. I loved your service and talents. But I might suggest that the Aggie Band-Hh’s problems just may lay with the alumni of the band, not the current or former student AggieBand-UH. I have cousins and close friend who were members of the band. At a game maybe 8-10 years ago we were with my wife’s best friend who was a flute player with the old BandUh. And the Alumni Band was here as well. Their leader walked up her stands (Toomey) and saw my wife’s friend and said “there she is, she was so easy. . . “ she said Hi, but my wife was infuriated at this guy and said so. He backed off big time. Never came up again. BandUh had some big problems. Someone had to deal with it.
