I hear you for sure on the lack of direction (at least publicly), but to put it simply, winning cures all. There is demand for GOOD football in the Sacramento area. They have a particular taste. Sacramento has been spoiled with high quality ball at the high school level for years. You put a good product on the field, start tapping into the talent pipeline (we have been moreso recently), and every family east of Davis (potentially even some north bay) is a potential fan. If you're going to spend, you have to be confident in your ability to deliver on the field. I believe we have the people and process in place to do deliver.

I agree with the sentiment, but the thing is, the MAC isn't a "higher level" and you know what's "stale" - relegating your football program down to D2 in order to avoid cutting it completely.. Putting a product on the field worth watching (winning) makes way more sense than chasing exposure for the sake of exposure. I think Luke Wood has a tenuous grasp on sports economics let alone basic finance. Winning cures all. That's what UCD should be focused on. Seemingly, they are. Also, nothing scares away donors faster than the possibility the program will be defunct in a few years.

Sac is playing checkers and UCD is playing chess. I'm very confident in 10 years we'll be looking back and glad we took a more methodical approach. Luke Wood will be an assistant AD at Colorado in 3 years while Sac State athletics is left with a very expensive smoldering pile of rubble.

I have lots of thoughts on this and did a real deep dive on Sac leadership and financial condition. They seem to think they can attract out of state tuition payers with this move. Not a snowball's chance in hell that brand awareness pays off the costs to the school of moving to the MAC.. Wouldn't be surprised if we see SacSt relegated back to the FCS as a cost saving measure in 5-10 years. Also, I was under the impression their new stadium/FBS entry funding was contingent on a PAC12 invite?? Did that change under the radar? Lots of things not adding up. Don't be surprised if SacSt is asking tax payers to foot the bill here soon. Doesn't seem to be popular amongst the student base who care at all about academics either.

The UCLA game, assuming it holds, is going to be mighty interesting. Lots of Ags in the area. I know a lot who'd go.

I think it's pretty standard fare to be tight-lipped with these types of things. NDSU's AD was never publicly open (just alot of external speculation) about their MWC ambitions until **boom** it happened. Keeping cards close to chest also invites interest from other conferences. You better believe the PAC will come sniffing around if their biggest competitor on the West Coast expresses interest. If Rocko said "all in on MWC" it closes doors to potential opportunities for when the timing is right, is all I'm saying

Massive difference. I wonder what even constitutes a "scholarship" anymore. Could I just pay a player the NIL dollar equivalent of a tuition, lodging, etc and circumvent the "scholarship" limit?

Really good point. Get bball ducks in a row before taking on another major (and costly) athletics project. In a way, I could see bball being a test case to help determine whether or not the economics of a conference upgrade are really worth it.
