• Big Sky Virtual Kickoff July 23-24
The commissioner did a plenary introduction but no details on fate of season.

I did not realize until today that Ed McCaffrey was the new UNC head coach. I think that’s a good hire for them. He was very, very eloquent in the interview. I thought most all head coaches handled themselves well. I got to thinking- if I had a son being recruited to any of these programs I would feel good about most (in terms of head coach). There is one I would definitely not feel good about (no names but he coaches at one of the “brawl of the wild“ schools - he just drips with arrogance and at times was sort of a jerk to the interviewer. He or someone else across from him was just holding a phone and the view was bouncing all over the place - needed anti-nausea medicine time watch. Beau Baldwin was a bit disconcerting as he keep looking down at his lap and I assumed he was constantly checking his phone. Not a good look - other coaches at least tried to look engaged. Also found out that Wyoming QB transferred to Idaho State. Montana State had picked up a transfer from NC State earlier. Don’t know what to think about this transfer portal thing. Most of these guys (especially these two) are not going to get a sniff at the pros. I don’t think the NC State transfer will even start at Montana State.

My favorite quote so far (Barnum from PSU) when suggested that he had a good sense of humor. “If you didn’t have a sense of humor growing up in the Barnum household you got your A$$ kicked”.
  • FCS Patriot League cancels fall sports
N.C. Central used to be D2 and only moved up to the MEAC a couple years ago. And of course we remember Bethune-Cookman in the D2 playoffs back in 1977.
  • COVID-19
    Ich glaube du kennst.

  • Wall Street Journal article on Chris Peterson, "The Coach Who Walked Away."
Good article and very apropos. Thanks for posting. I have a subscription to the Wall Street Journal (sorry 69 Aggie) but didn’t catch it, Probably because my wife and I are on a 2 week camping trip Jason Gay, the Sports writer is very good and very, very, very funny (he is serious in this article, but I highly recommend checking out his other articles). Big time college football is pretty much a burn out machine, and good to see a balance articulated by Chris and in the article.
  • COVID-19
I had to shake my head when she even went against faculty in ordering that the UC system abandon the SAT and supposedly create their own test. If you are going to admit less prepared students then the system should provide remedial opportunities or prepare for a reduced graduation rate.
  • Lawsuit filed agains UC, CSU, over response to pandemic
ECU actually has a very strong fan base. Probably better than NC State although that, in part, may be because they is not much to do in Greenville. They have had a rough patch in performance the past couple of years and have lost to NC A&T and I think James Madison. I remember them hanging 60+ points on UNC a few years back. They now have the former James Madison coach.
  • Lawsuit filed agains UC, CSU, over response to pandemic
East Carolina announced the termination of their swimming and tennis programs just a few days ago. Overall athletic finances were cited. Football is pretty big there with a strong fan base. I think it makes sense, at least there, to cut whole programs rather than weaken budgets of all.
  • Big Sky replays
all I can manage to do is see the next event on Pluto.
  • Big Sky replays
get there big sky app, drop down menu to watch big sky then you can filter for sport/team or navigate by week. You can airplay if have Apple devices (and maybe chrome cast?) if you want it projected on a big screen tv. Might also be able to do it on computer but I never do that anymore so don’t know.

That’s for the heads up on the Pluto game replay this Friday. The stream is more reliable on Pluto. Thinking about enjoying an adult beverage and watching. My wife is already starting to worry about what I will do with myself this fall.
  • Uncommon Engineering - interviews hosted by Hawkins
Em. Prof Groth has a very interesting story to tell. My favorite line “luck has a lot to do with success - you can be very smart and without some luck fail, or be very vacuous and succeed with a lot of luck.” Have watched several episodes of greatest events of WW2 in color (Netflix). Some excellent footage.
  • San Jose game out?
DrMike He could still have some eligibility and collect social security at the same time.

    LOL
  • San Jose game out?
good point. Different states have different situations. California likely to slowly put foot back on the pedal, but states like South Dakota with low population density would be ready to tee it up earlier.
  • San Jose game out?
that only happens in the private sector. I am confident sports will continue - when I don’t know but it is a good community rallying point.
  • EWU faculty report critical of football program and athletic department budget.
Well, the report was issued by their faculty senate. My impressions of faculty Senates are socialist-type academics isolated from the real world. I never attended any at NC State. Now I am not a fan of Best and I do t think academics is stressed nearly as much as at UCD. So, I would say they are just going to have to figure out their priorities and balance on their own.
  • Playoffs
Wow. I was telling g my wife al along - run it - if you don’t score call TO. Field gets really compressed inside the 5.
  • Playoffs
JMU just can’t seem to get untracked. Their coacj Cignetti, is losing his cool.
  • Cal Poly’s Tim Walsh retires
Let’s hope beau is as successful at CP as another Cal assistant coach was at UCD ;-)
  • Playoffs
I think James Madison will give them a run for their money. With Lance back another 3 years they look to maintain dominance.
