Hate to see him go. Didn’t show much last year when given a shot - looked tentative.

Exactly what I thought. Didn’t seem to want to hit the hole hard. I heard some stats recently on the portal and they weren’t as favorable as far as athletes getting picked up as I think the athletes think. It certainly is not a pro in terms of college degree pursuit and education with bouncing around with pretty much only playing time in mind.

I think if Tompkins is going to “win” the job, he will need to start assuming the Barriere model, I.e., a pass first, run second approach (at least on designed pass plays) and Barriere has matured in that regard. . With such success running it is hard to get in a mindset of keeping the feet quiet and letting plays develop rather than pulling the ball down quickly. Oddly, it’s a bit of a difficult position to be in when you can run so well. He will need to be a dual threat if at QB, and this past spring he was pretty much a one-way threat. I do think a strong offensive line and a good running game that wears down folks is a more consistent recipe for wins than a more pass happy approach. Anyway tompkins needs to be playing somewhere and there are other options in addition to QB. Anyway I hope things will sort out. I am hoping for a healthy UG all season- in my mind he is still the most valuable player on the team (at least offense)

I personally have settled on sling after dumping youtube tv and it’s jump to $65. I get sling orange for $30 that gets you ESPN, espn2, espn3 and access to ESPN app on tv via smart tv or box (apple, Roku, etc.). I add the sports package $10) in fall for college football that adds ESPNU and other channels that cover ncaa football. I do add ESPN+ because it carries a bunch of FCS football and they have replay on-demand. The good thing about sling is that you can dial back after the season is over. I did add an attic attenna for local networks and that brings in more college football. Anyway, that’s what I do.

Well I think SDSU would have one if their starting QB didn’t go down in me first series. In fact I would say 99% sure they would have won. He is a difference maker and their 2nd string QB was totally confused and off.
  • Bison QB goes #3 to the 49ers
    never threw a spiral either..
  • Bison QB goes #3 to the 49ers
..and I remember Devon King dropping a sure pick 6 off of Lance. If you have 0 interceptions over 2 years - you need some bounces going your way.

Personally I think Lance will be a good NFL QB but I think he has been a bit overhyped due to the team he had around him, and not the greatest pass defenses against him. I think he will take a few years to really mature and get comfortable - time will tell.

“Seems to end up a fair amount of apparent parity, with the only givens being that Montana will cheat and Northern Colorado will be bad.”

    Agreed!

Well Weber finally had the chickens come home to roost after all their close games. Guess Jay Hill wont have to worry about playing 3 more games (early season talk about having to play all those games in ensuing 12 months towards NC in both “seasons”.

EWU has had a porous defenses almost all season so not a great surprise at their downfall. Bottom line - Big Sky has little bragging rights and claims to MVFC bias (I am guilty of that) until they do something about it.

What was so striking to me is how SDSU completely shut down the run against NDSU the prior game. It goes back to the old adage of who controls the line of scrimmage wins games. MVFC is more suited/cognizant of that old axiom.

I will say the Aggies did much better on 2019 against the Bison who were much better last year than EWU did this year (had more offensive yards and contained bison much of the game) - they would have matched up better this year too.
  • 2021 Spring Playoffs
NDSU blowing EWU off the line. EWU looks like they will have to score every possession to win.
  • 2021 Spring Playoffs
Did you see that pass!!!! I though he was throwing it away.
  • 2021 Spring Playoffs
SIU missing their stud #15 who scored a bunch last week.
  • 2021 Spring Playoffs
But EWU defense that has been porous for most of the year is keeping NDSU in game 20-14.
  • 2021 Spring Playoffs
NDSU can’t stop Barriere and Co. 20-7. Missed extra point.
  • 2021 Spring Playoffs
    14-0 EWU. ESPN3.
  • 2021 Spring Playoffs
EWU up 7-0 after first drive and stops NDSU - second drive starting near midfield. NDSU is definitely not the team of last year and I think EWU has a good chance to take this game. I have mixed emotions - pull for big sky or a dose of freudenschäde on Best.

Sam Houston (Institute of Technology) escapes with win 21-16. Had stopped watching game as Sam was up 21-0 in third quarter. Monmouth QB intercepted on 4 th down in end zone to end game.

I think, at least in the case of EWU, if you were not an autobid, and not top 4 you are at the mercy of the committee. So Sacred Heart and Holy Cross are in although there are several better teams. They will get torched in the first round especially HC unless coach Stig. Invokes the mercy rule. Normally there would be many more non auto -qualifiers that are “worthy”. But, in any event, the best teams are in the mix and whoever wins will be deserving of the crown (with no asterisk).

I will also say that there is no way Missouri State should be in. That is simply MVFC bias. They will have the advantage of having played more recently - UND hasn’t played in a month.
  • 2021 Spring Playoffs
I think Weber is going to have a tough time with Southern Illinois. They have a strong running game. The flip side is that they gave up a bunch of points to SE La. but SE La. has a much more potent offense than Weber.

Eastern will have to limit the big 240 lb. steamroller of a running back NDSU has. However, this year NDSU does not have a breakaway running back and their pass attack is inconsistent. SDSU throttled NDSUs run game, something that UND could not do. Barriere needs a big game and being on the road will be another obstacle for them.

My thought is that Eastern has a better chance of advancing than Weber (probably not the prevailing wisdom). I also think Sam Houston Institute of Technology will have their hands full with Monmouth (again probably against prevailing thought). Other games will go sort of pro forma I think.
