  • FCS games 4/17
SDSU runs for over 300 yards on NDSU and wins 27-17.
  • Big Sky Scores, April 10
There seemed to be no clear dominant team in big sky this year. Weber had all close games outside of Idaho state, and there Hail Mary win (maybe hail Joseph smith in Utah) was preceded by a 15 yard personal foul by NAU or they wouldn’t even be in reach of the end zone. So they are living right and certainly got some breaks, but it goes to show that a good defense will keep you in games regardless.

EWU lost to Idaho, was almost upset by them a second tone and escaped from Pocatello (a dropped third down pass would have kept ISUs last drive alive and likely ended tied game). So it looks like the 2 teams from big sky going into the tourney are susceptible. Yet to be seen.

by prevailing wisdom yes, but I have thought Kennesaw has been overrated the past couple years. Monmouth simply dominated them and have a good QB. The big south is not a strong conference which is part of the reason Kennesaw gets over ranked. Kennesaw runs a triple option, much like poly did for years.

    LOL.
Reminds me of a Kung fu episode:
Grasshopper - “master, what are those two dragonflies doing flying around stuck together”?
Master-“Ah, good question grasshopper; it is called “the golden dragonfly” “

In this case maybe a ménage a trois

agreed. The auto bids with depleted participation start sticking out like sore thumbs. Question: will the “new” WAC get an auto bid. That will be, at least initially, not a very strong conference. With the relatively large proportion of auto bids (and increasing?) some quite good teams are going to be left out even with a full playoff field.

Agree completely on role of QB in Aggie offense and meditating high school stats where the best athlete often plays QB. Hopefully things will shakeout and the right personnel will be in the right spots this fall. Definitely need to open up some things and get more balls to Babb, Castles, and of course to reliable Crawford. Spreading the field vertically should help all phases of game. Also seems like pass protection could be shored up a bit - with the heavy dose of running, I’d have thought their would be more time in the pocket - maybe just my impression or perhaps the loss of Gilliam who may have been a bit more savvy on picking up blitzes?

Barriere had way more time than HR or other Aggie QB in the pocket.

Coaching staff definitely looked to out more load on running game and less on QB this season. Will be interesting to see who emerges in fall. HR is very mobile, Tomkins best runner, both HR and Hastings appear to throw a better ball. Tomkins injured his throwing shoulder and still attempted passes so maybe hard to judge. I am not sold yet as some are that Tomkins is the best option as the starting QB. By nature he looks to pull ball down and run. He reminds me of Troy Andersen at Montana State. Great athlete and used at qb, but not optimum at that position, at least now in my opinion. All that running will also expose him to injury at QB as happened to Andersen. Flanker, running back, wildcat, punt returner, other options to use him.

Lots of coaching and matching of parts to do going into fall. Lots of talent but will need solid QB play, play calling and orchestration of players.

my point is that he will absolutely need to trust others going forward for the sake of the team. He needs to conserve “magic”. Will be interesting come fall. There is just too much talent in the receiving Corp. Coaches seemed to try to go more Midwestern football with heavy run game. That is not alright bad but you need to be able to strike quick and go downfield too. I kept thinking I was watching Northwestern instead of UC Davis football.

total mystery. Couldn’t stop the clock with time left and only 2 timeouts.

montana is certainly a beast in their own minds. I just can’t tell you how much I loved the shellacking the Ags gave them in Missoula in 2018. Watching the fans leave early was pure unadulterated schadenfruede.

defense much improved-and that keeps you in games. Tompkins will need a lot of coaching if he is to be the guy at QB. Incredible athlete but QB takes a lot of decision making. Right know relying too much on his running and making the big play- which is understandable. Will need to go to his receivers more and not immediately go to scramble. Maybe JT or someone can coach him up. Tell not to get off YouTube and do something useful :-). Barriere has had a maturation process and can really throw the ball. That is what makes him so dangerous.

Weber squeaks by again. They maybe the luckiest big sky team in recent history. I think somebody is going to hose them in the playoffs. EWU a much better chance to advance deep into playoffs.

I’d pay good money to see best vs Hauck in wwe or whatever that cage thing is. They deserve each other.

Why not kick field goal with 4th and 5 you need twi scores in any event. Just don’t understand that.

I agree. Just awful. How can you penalize a player and team for that great tackle. The one things refs should not do is influence games and they are doing it in spades today.
  • Week 5: #9 Eastern Washington @ #11 UC Davis
I think there have been 3 or 4 trick plays, maybe not as much as last couple years. The bigger issue is going downfield to spread defense.

    That is horrible. Super tackle.

I think just being the house on barriere. Too much time
