I did said push student attendance. But the fact is still it’s a hard push in Northern California. Cal and Stanford attendance is abysmal. It’ll never be like Montana or Montana State but maybe an average of 12,000 (however that is measured) is attainable.

Sands breathes sigh of relief. No more sports center fame.

Set up for a sands rocket snap over head of punter for losing TD?

Don’t look know but UND pulls to within 7 of Weber. About 3:30 left.

football is just not on the culture for students and most alums. Even when the stadium is full it seems as if the students are just there socially and not serious about the game. It is a sort of of a west coast thing. Think reasonable expectations are to push student attendance since they are already on campus. Alums and others are going to be spread out and I suspect not many are coming beyond a 1 - 1.5 hour drive. The city of Davis is not exactly a sports hot bed. Winning is obviously important with a tepid fam base.

Noticeable is how many HBCUs are in the top of the attendance ranking. It is more of a family and alum thing with all the attendant social functions and bands.

Furman goes on. From what I watched Elon looked impotent. The only offense they could seem to muster was their QB scrambling. Elon’s QB is Matt McKay ex. Montana St. ex. NC State QB.

Delaware crushes St. Francis (Delaware didn’t deserve such an easy opponent (Northeastern conference is very weak and always 1 and done)

Davidson crushed (another non-starter auto-bid in playoffs)

Fordham out of Patriot League has 0 defense - kept it numerically close against New Hampshire with offense. New Hampshire gets another Patriot League team in Holy Cross next week.

Weber dominating North Dakota - another team I don’t think deserved getting into playoffs.

Man, it is hard watching these games with teams obviously inferior to UCD.

correct. And it didn’t help SEMO that they averaged less than 4,000 a game in attendance. Happy Thanksgiving all.

I don’t know how committee members (at least some) could keep a straight face with the reverse engineered argument to get Montana in the playoff. I am convinced that Montana was selected prior to their game against MSU and no matter how badly they were embarrassed it would not have made a difference. I honestly think the committee is lazy and doesn’t want to do objective analysis. I actually am ok with the Aggies not getting in - it’s just the double standard given to Montana.
  • What Will It Take to Keep Pace with the Success of Sac State Now?
We have some promising young players who took huge strides this year, encouraged by guys like Budgett, Larison, Rex Connors (a RFr.), Hastings, Venable, Kraft, Tompkins, Hutton, Buchanan, Poerio, Eaton, Sarale, Ford, Toki, Davis, Thorpe, Castles, Kennedy and Perez coming back.

Biggest holes to fill are Left Tackle, Center, Place Kicker and Cornerback... my opinion. Center, less so, because when Pettek went down I don't think Davis lost much of a beat offensively, the backup did well.

The punting this year was not good. I know it’s hard to fill whelan’s shoes, but the punters were switched back and forth trying to find someone with consistency. I don’t think it resulted in dire consequences, but for example, the last punt against Sac State that only went to the 50 wasn’t good and most punts turned out better simply because they were too short to field and rolled.

I would add Gale as a potential impact player. I wonder if the coaches have considered moving him to wide receiver. We did not have a big wide out to throw to. He is fast (outruns DBs) and with the bigger Castles and Thorpe at TE, why not move him to wide out? Kraft has been around a while, but injured a lot. He was listed this year as a junior - so not “young”. I thought he looked good in Bozeman. Poerio is also a junior this year.

My thoughts exactly B&G. I too have many other interests, but I still want the Aggies to win - I would think Hawk would say excellence in whatever you do - academics or athletics. I love college football (don’t even follow pro sports anymore) due to the overall experience. Of course the Montanas and Montana States will always have a more fervent following - only teams in state, plus California is much more reserved in terms of following college football. Stanford is sort of like a mausoleum.

Re: Sac. I don’t think Taylor will take the Cal OC position - he is head coaching material. Only thing left to prove at Sac is either a NC or a deep playoff run, then I think he’s out of there at first good opportunity. Catch is that FBS fires their coaches early so he almost has to jump ship at mid season for timing. I am pretty sure Sac will cool off after he is gone.

P.S. - I google-searched how to give feedback to the FCS committee -- but there is no link to do so!!!
. Need a secret password that is only provided to Montana and the like.

ivys have never entered into the mix ostensibly due to extending the season and academics. Jackson State is not in the bracket. They will likely go to (and already had decided) celebration bowl, play on front of a bunch of people, enjoy the bands of both teams and keep more of the money. FAMU was in the playoffs last year as the only HBCU league entry. They lost their first game. You may recall we played Bethune-Cookman in the 1977 d2 playoffs at Toomey. It was a pretty easy victory. I think Moroski set a record for longest TD throw (maybe to Calvin Ellison) of 98 yards or thereabouts. I was in the band-uh at game.

In the FCS, teams can bid (read $$$) for home games. This is one reason why the frizz (what MSU folks call the Griz) get in. So name recognition, $$, and history can get you in. Is it fair - no - but I think there is (or should be) a unit in kindergarten about life not being fair. Maybe a teacher could develop a teaching unit using the frizz and FBS playoffs as a case study.

Man do I hope Montana is ousted first game. Their coach is a real proctologist target.

This is the biggest travesty on earth. 4 league losses, the last one a curb stomping and a powder puff out of conference schedule.

Absolutely no fairness in letting them in. I don’t think the Aggies should get on and much more so for Montana. Absolutely ridiculous.
  • Week 12: UC Davis (6-4) at Sac State (10-0)
your photo confirms my initial reaction of “first down - stop the clock until ball reset”. Don’t recall but I doubt side judge was very close and just easier to let the clock runout. Once that happened I don’t know if you can do anything about it.
  • Week 12: UC Davis (6-4) at Sac State (10-0)
agree with all your points. The committee won’t go with the Ags. I will, however, be very pissed if they let Montana in. 0 wins over a .500 team, 4 league losses and a cupcake out of league schedule on top of a thorough pasting at the hands of Montana State.
  • Week 12: UC Davis (6-4) at Sac State (10-0)
I think the play call was fine. Just have to get to the stick or out of bounds. Very close on both accounts but like hand grenades and horse shoes.

Man out of bounds with that catch or first down and they could have gone to the end zone or so.
