sac state falling off the tight rope. They were already walking a tight rope moving to FBs but then with the stadium stuff and flashy hires it all falls apart

In all seriousness, this is a prime example of kicking yourself in the butt. Literally no reason for the Sac program to be in this state but personal ego, overinflated expectations, and ignorance to the extreme has put them here. One of the biggest problems is an administration that simply won't admit fault or mistakes. This is where you end up.

Nah bro with that 1.4 million dollar buy out they can host even bigger concerts for those 2 home games :fire:

Uhh marketing on campus is.. fine? I mean they have ads running at the dining halls, coho and silo on the TV sets but that's about it. I think having football guys run around with flyers would create a better sense of public convo/awareness.
Also just got this email which is sent to all students:

parents just got a call from the ticketing office saying "we noticed you bought tickets for last years playoff game, are you going to come this time?" Glad they are reaching out!

I think he is a good hire, my question is still whether he is that much better than Wulff? He seems like a decent culture builder and has dealt with the modern NIL stuff at big programs.

This is what I feel like a stadium for us to the MW (with the new press box on the unseen side) would have to look like:

My favorite stadium in all of college football is Saluki Stadium at Southern Illinois University. The capacity of the stadium is only 15k but its what I could imagine ours basically looking like at its best. fill in one of the grass berms and add capacity with the new press box.saluki__Resampled.jpeg

or literally give out ANYTHING like we have done for most home games this year. I dont know if the university thinks slapping the words "FCS PLAYOFFS" onto things makes them think students will come out (which personally I feel like the students as I have stated before, don't really understand how FCS vs FBS vs FCS Playoffs vs bowl games works and it makes it confusing of how important things are). Give out some more blankets or something!!! its gonna be chilly!

I agree with you there. I think advertising for sports games on campus and around town has been really bad (it seems to be improving this season but hasn't seemed as successful this week so far..). The giveaways seem to help too. I think the production of things like press conferences, the problems with tickets, lack of knowledge about the game unless you are on social media constantly (like you could walk through campus and not know football is being played due to lack of football advertising beyond tv's in the coho saying a game is happening) or flyers/posters advertising the SEASON or team itself in any coffee shops, restaurants or stores in town is just a fail year round. Montana and MSU do this and it seems to get the word out around the area (we could start with Davis and try to branch to leverage north valley/north bay support with this). Last years PR stuff around the playoffs was embarrassing and this year is seeming slightly better so far, but I agree if you are going to play with the big boys and try to get on espn and do all the facility stuff these improvements cannot happen without more public interaction. I was home last weekend in the bay and say like 5 sjsu football and cal football ads on streaming platforms and tv.

I think all these facility/conference things are important in tandem, I just dont get why it seems like the energy into these basics has not been as seemingly important to match that of the new exciting building/higher competition stuff.

Davis has plenty of students that would want to help with these sort of things... heck The Aggie Newspaper is in every coffee shop around town and I hear about the concerts on campus (like sunset fest and lawntopia) NONSTOP for weeks before they happen. I dont think its that Davis doesnt have resources or support, it just seems like the "sleeping giant" is still partly under anesthesia.

hope they sell fcs championship/playoff shirts this year! I love my long sleeved shirt that I got at the game last year with all the teams in the playoffs in the back :)

I really think its a matter of the literal worst timing to have these huge games. With quarter system everyone is having finals starting Friday through the entire week after the game. The attendance in the playoffs has been pretty terrible across the board I agree. The community aspect always surprises me that more people from the surrounding counties don't come to games (which I think is in part that they have never heard of any of the teams we are playing largely in FCS, including URI). I think the fact we have had almost 100% capacity (at least in tickets sold) this year is a testament to the growth into having solid fan support despite the potential letdown (that I hope ends up be less bad of a turnout) that the playoffs seem to face. I have more friends going to this game than last playoff game but I still know a ton of people who are taking 18 units and feel way too pressured (whether they actually have the time, are studying, or scroll on their phones wasting it) with upcoming finals to come out. Its unfortunate but just the truth.
