The SUU experience - especially the stadium experience - left a little to be desired. It's interesting with the whole Coliseum concept, but if improvements haven't been made since 2013 (last I saw it) - then you might be disappointed, still lovely country though, and as someone who has seen both - I think St. George has better expansion potential, better proximity to Vegas and a really cool town, nice people, the students showed out pretty well for the Davis game last year, and it was a tough game, they played hard, Aggies just outclassed them in the skill game, but Utah Tech could go on a run if they can find a quarterback to lead them and the murder schedules finally end.

Also, to St. George's credit, we were having a few pops around campus and nobody gave us any kind of a hard time. Also, BOTH schools need to ditch the track - but everybody's got budgets...thing is, Utah schools have a lot of space, they should separate facilities.

  • Aggie Ascent - Facilities Master Plan Release
You know at the end of all the seating enhancements, eventually there's going to have to be an upgrade to the Daktronics stadium board, or maybe add a second board to the North end
  • Aggie Ascent - Facilities Master Plan Release

I honestly don't care if the announcement comes out - I just think that for Davis to be legitimate there needs to be measurable facility upgrades each season, starting with Football - not starting on the Club Boxes by next February and finishing them for the 2027 season seems like a total failure in my eyes.

Are those Club Suites going in next spring?

Here's a blast from the past guys, just now over 40 years ago in what looks like Jim's UC Davis Aggies @ Bob Mattos' Sac State Hornets late in the year in 1985. Looks like a mud bowl style game with active rain during the contest in what I think is old Hughes Stadium? Maybe that's on the Sac campus: This was the 16th of 18 straight seasons that Davis beat Sac - crazy run.

Every young man who comes to Davis has to work his butt off to be great...I see a three star it's like a gauge, but it doesn't tell you how the guy's going to grow and compete when he finally makes the jump to college ball. If the work ethic is there, the desire and the will to be great is there - I think the Davis coaching staff can make them into very productive, prolific players - the kind that get the potential Power 4 offer...but just the same Davis will be FBS soon, so you have to think about when the rubber meets the road on this Mountain West thing, it's a selling point, but we have to make good on it as a program, a fan base, a University.

Looking forward to seeing everybody up North.

Everybody - this is now 6 weeks away.

If it isn't in September or early October, I would have a hard time making it to Cheney. Love that part of the State in through Idaho --- but that time of year, it is cold, wet, blowing and frankly a huge reason why EWU mops up at home.
  • 2026 Week 1: UC Davis @ Portland State
Having done two-a-days in low 90 degree weather in the Portland area as a kid -- that is a drainer -- way hotter up there with that heat than in Davis. It's not Texas or Alabama humidity, but it's far more humid up North than in Davis.

I think PSU chose this start time on purpose. Coaches should be conditioning their players accordingly.

Ha, a football only facility -- what a concept.

I can see how The Bluebloods would assume Kollock will start -- they're completely wrong in stating that '4 starting offensive linemen' return, we all know that's not true, so I think they're misinformed a bit. Looks like a full on battle at QB to start.

Solid addition, glad for Poly - makes it tougher for Davis in SoCal on the recruiting trail!

Looks a lot like the EFAC center Davis installed a few years back - going to be great for the student-athletes in SLO. What do they call the ring of honor just outside the entrance?

Was up in the Northwest this weekend catching the Türkiye / Australia World Cup Match in Vancouver...a lot of Aggie buzz up north about this season. Going to be a good Davis turnout come August.

Proto G - could see him feed at Center if needed. Love big signees on the OL! Big Sky has always had a strong presence in professional football with their offensive lineman, most recently Jackson Slater from Sac signed in the 5th round spring of '25.

Aggies have historically also had some strong names grace the NFL ranks -- remembering C Marc Manfredda (R.I.P.), G Jonathan Compas, OTs Cory & Brad Lekkerkerker and of course OT Elliot Vallejo who actually dressed for the Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII...one of the more epic Super Bowls in recent memory.

Vallejo was one of the better stories I can recall - he left UCLA (this is before the NLI era) because the Bruin staff deemed it more important that he be at practice at their scheduled times rather than attend his engineering classes and labs (System Engineering). Came to Davis because Bob said that he should absolutely attend all of his academic related activities as they had been scheduled and get to practice at different hours, workout at different hours, get positional work at different hours. Helped that he was from Salinas, which is a 3 hour drive to Davis...whereas it was a 6 hour drive to Westwood.

Check it out - just get some Viking symbolism in there, roll it with black and green, maybe white highlights, you are looking pretty good.

The second is interesting as it's similar to the Cascadia Cross you see at Timbers home games.

Warrior/Weapon themes - I've actually got a Viking shield tattooed on my right forearm - it's definitely one of the more distinguishing things from ancient Viking culture were the unique designs of the shields from the different clans:
