Ha, a football only facility -- what a concept.
  • 2026 preseason thread

I can see how The Bluebloods would assume Kollock will start -- they're completely wrong in stating that '4 starting offensive linemen' return, we all know that's not true, so I think they're misinformed a bit. Looks like a full on battle at QB to start.

Solid addition, glad for Poly - makes it tougher for Davis in SoCal on the recruiting trail!

Looks a lot like the EFAC center Davis installed a few years back - going to be great for the student-athletes in SLO. What do they call the ring of honor just outside the entrance?

Was up in the Northwest this weekend catching the Türkiye / Australia World Cup Match in Vancouver...a lot of Aggie buzz up north about this season. Going to be a good Davis turnout come August.

Proto G - could see him feed at Center if needed. Love big signees on the OL! Big Sky has always had a strong presence in professional football with their offensive lineman, most recently Jackson Slater from Sac signed in the 5th round spring of '25.

Aggies have historically also had some strong names grace the NFL ranks -- remembering C Marc Manfredda (R.I.P.), G Jonathan Compas, OTs Cory & Brad Lekkerkerker and of course OT Elliot Vallejo who actually dressed for the Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII...one of the more epic Super Bowls in recent memory.

Vallejo was one of the better stories I can recall - he left UCLA (this is before the NLI era) because the Bruin staff deemed it more important that he be at practice at their scheduled times rather than attend his engineering classes and labs (System Engineering). Came to Davis because Bob said that he should absolutely attend all of his academic related activities as they had been scheduled and get to practice at different hours, workout at different hours, get positional work at different hours. Helped that he was from Salinas, which is a 3 hour drive to Davis...whereas it was a 6 hour drive to Westwood.

Check it out - just get some Viking symbolism in there, roll it with black and green, maybe white highlights, you are looking pretty good.

The second is interesting as it's similar to the Cascadia Cross you see at Timbers home games.

Warrior/Weapon themes - I've actually got a Viking shield tattooed on my right forearm - it's definitely one of the more distinguishing things from ancient Viking culture were the unique designs of the shields from the different clans:

Now, with all the green showcased - they look very similar to the Jets (synonymous with losing currently)....and, maybe it takes an outsider, but seeing the PS on the side of the helmet conjures images of POS, which I mean, you know. So it's not very awe inspiring.

I mean, it's the City's university - you can do things with roses, there's a million themes with Vikings as your mascot, you're working with white, black and sort of a vivid emerald green...that's good clay to work with. I know they do a lot of graphic design, sustainable fashion and textile arts at PSU - recruit the student body, make a competition out of it!

Maybe 18-20 years ago or more when Jerry Glanville was coaching the Vikings, he got the Nike uniform group to do up their squad -- they largely abandoned the green and did a kind of creative Mojo based Odessa Permian look - with the Viking spear tip over the top of the helmet. Was kind of interesting.

    Well, that sucks for Davis.
  • 2026 preseason thread

At this stage in my life - it's simply a point of fact that a lot of us older guard are simply this, elders in the UC Davis Football lore machine. I'll talk with Dr. Mike, my Dad and agalum sometimes and you get stories about the team and the University even further back than my generation. It's great, tell all the stories, share the information, this is generational responsibility in my opinion.

That's all true, but the dude wasn't playing lights out necessarily, but yes, he did go down, and the backup looked very unprepared. Stanford scored 14 of their 17 points on fumble recovery TDs.
  • 2026 preseason thread

Love Jon Grant - like literally, a legendary Aggie, but when he ran cold it could spiral fast, however, when he was hot he could beat Stanford when it mattered. The strength of those '05 and '06 teams was actually in the defense. I know in '05 we literally handled Stanford defensively, we held NDSU to 3 yds rushing and 14 first downs in the FargoDome...but lost to New Hampshire and Portland State to open the year...but it wasn't due to the defense. Just so inconsistent on offense. Names like Faletoese, Reece, Elbanna, Amaral, Amos, Bergan, Ng, Evero, Barsi, de Graaf... all come to mind.

We all thought the team was trending up - then when the full-time FCS slate hit the University...over time we just couldn't keep up, had no plan, no real commitment...wasn't until Hawk and Blue showed up that it all really changed.

'06 the offense was a lot better - we had Kays and a young Chris Carter and a young Brandon Rice at WR, which was pretty potent in hindsight. Played @ Youngstown that year as well - I just remember we always had these horrendous road trips against really tough teams in those transition years.

Check out this 2006 lineup to open the year:
    @ Northern Colorado
    @ TCU
    @ Montana State
    @ Youngstown
    @ Cal Poly

That's the M-U-R-D-E in MURDER to open a season -- still ended up 6-5.

Not great for the fans either, ha.

Was it maybe 20 years ago we played at TCU?
