Holy cow I just went back and looked at Montgomery's special teams stats from high school. His senior season he had 16 kick returns for 431 yards (26.9 avg) with a long of 70 and 1 TD. He had 11 punt returns for 346 yards (31.5 avg) with a long of 66 and 1 TD.

The Big Sky is all over the place right now. EWU looked really off against 2 good FBS teams, but came back with a decent win over Fordham. Montana is winning big but just lost their starting QB for the season against Savannah St. Cal Poly is 0-3, but they looked significantly more competitive against UNI than their previous 2 games. ISU just beat a bad FBS team. UND was looking strong, but got pounded by a highly ranked USD. As of right now, it kind of seems like an anyone can beat anyone situation in the conference.

Yeah I'm perfectly okay not using Doss for kick returns. I wonder if we will eventually put Montgomery back there for returns. That kid is supposed to have blazing speed.

I'm not sure if a full replay exists for the public. I looked on watch big sky, but they only have replays of the games that were on pluto and ours was on eleven sports. We put CJ in towards the end of the game and we basically ran wildcat every play from what I remember. CJ just went schoolyard on em and they didn't have an answer for it. I think we started the drive midfield after a fumble recovery. Don't quote me on that though.

Probably helped that CJ had fresh legs against a tired defense, but yeah they didn't seem prepared at all for a wildcat formation.
  • 2018 Recruiting List
New offer out on DB Jack Shippy. We're his first offer. Has 22 tackles, 3 interceptions, and 1 forced fumble in 4 games so far this season for San Clemente.

I think Massey is one of the better ranking sites out there. It's just early in the season though. Most of these ranking systems have some problems early on in the season. You nailed my main point though. It's not necessarily about the exact placement for me, just that we are getting a little bit of recognition.

Hahaha yeah I thought the Montana comparison was just a little bit over the top by Hawk, but to be fair Jake has consistently looked good this season (even against SDSU) and statistically has been one of the best quarterbacks in FCS so far. I hope we keep trending upward, next hurdle is Weber who will be hungry after a lackluster performance against Sac.
  • Post game discussion: UC Davis @ Portland St
I don't see why he wouldn't. The man bleeds blue and gold and he has an opportunity to build something truly special here in Davis.
  • Big Sky 9/16
I'm always down for more recruiting. We were already bringing in some really talented kids with Gould at the helm. He just had no idea what to do with them.
  • Post game discussion: UC Davis @ Portland St
They actually have Weber as a slight favorite in the matchup section, basically because of home field advantage, despite UCD being ranked higher in their power rankings. They predict it will be close though. Predictions are tough though, Massey gave PSU a pretty darn solid chance of beating us in their prediction.

As of right now they are giving WSU a 54% chance of winning with a score prediction of 28-26. One of their closest matchups of the weekend.

Oh another thing I wanted to mention. Giving a shout out to TE Wesley Preece. That dude had 2 or 3 catches where he ended up dragging 3 or 4 defenders for significant extra yardage. We all knew Doss was a stud, but I was worried that the passing game would be 1 dimensional with him. Doss is still top 5 in FCS is receiving, but we are definitely spreading the ball around. Preece and Moore both had excellent games.

I personally think it's impossible to tell how Scott would have done in this set up. I'm just very happy that we got Maier. He's been killing it.
  • Post game discussion: UC Davis @ Portland St
I mean it happens all the time that players get passed up, but I don't see how a major program didn't pick up on Maier out of LBCC. He had an excellent season there, we are very lucky to say the least.

Thought I would look up some stats on Jake Maier and remember guys, he's still just a sophomore:

    Completion % - .710 (8th in FCS)
Completions per game - 22.0 (T-15th in FCS)
    Passing Efficiency - 178.1 (5th in FCS)
    Passing TDs - 8 (T-7th in FCS)
    Passing Yards - 943 (4th in FCS)
Passing Yards per game - 314.3 (6th in FCS)
Passing Yards per completion - 14.29 (19th in FCS)
Yards per pass attempt - 10.14 (5th in FCS)

We may have found ourselves a star QB.
  • Week 3: UC Davis @ Portland State
The play where Maier punted (I believe we did it twice) was really interesting. Eliminates the risk of a return because they can't have a guy back as a returner if we are potentially going for it. I have never seen a play quite like it. Definitely caught me off guard the first time.
  • Week 3: UC Davis @ Portland State
In terms of players, I think the biggest addition so far is Maier. He already is acting and playing like a legitimate division 1 football player and he's only a Sophomore. That being said, we have a huge freshman class and it will be a little bit before we see who the big contributors are. The biggest thing is the change coaching though. The offensive scheme is dynamite and the defense has a ton of confidence despite being a lot of the same players as last season. That comes from the coaches. It also helps that the man at the helm has guts. I love that we are taking risks now. Gould took practically 0 risks during his stint here.
  • Big Sky 9/16
Absolutely, that's what I'm saying. Weber looked a little off tonight against Sac despite still getting the W. They absolutely could bounce back and look scary good against us. As I mentioned in other threads, I'm still not getting my hopes too high up for this season. We've seen a lot of good improvements so far, but we all know how dangerous the Big Sky Conference is and how quickly things can change.
