• Week 2: UC Davis (0-1) @ South Dakota State (0-1)
Aggies win the toss and defer. Kickoff goes out the back of the end zone. Let's go defense!

  • Week 2: UC Davis (0-1) @ South Dakota State (0-1)
Gameday! GO AGS! BEAT THE BUNNIES!... (or at least make it look respectable this time around)
  • Week 2: UC Davis (0-1) @ South Dakota State (0-1)
I haven't heard anything, but he's still listed on the "depth" chart for this week's game, not that that specifically means anything in Dan Hawkins' world.
  • Week 2: UC Davis (0-1) @ South Dakota State (0-1)
lol well now they only have Isaiah Davis with Pierre Strong moving on to the NFL so they should only have 1 RB putting up 200 yards instead of 2.
  • Week 2: UC Davis (0-1) @ South Dakota State (0-1)
I'm with you. I don't think this will be a particularly close game. Our offense is suspect as hell and they just held IOWA to 7 points and 160 yards.
  • Week 2: UC Davis (0-1) @ South Dakota State (0-1)
I think that this game is a big litmus test for the Aggies and how this season is going to go. If we want this team to be a playoff team we have to be able to beat the best. Now I'm expecting a loss here, but there's a big difference between a close loss or a loss like ours in the playoffs last time we played.
  • Week 1: UC Davis (0-0) @ Cal (0-0)
Well it appears that Newman is gone so that ship has sailed. SHOULD we give some of the other QBs a shot? Maybe. The coaches are the ones who see these guys practice every day. Like I said earlier though, Cody already referenced that they QB flip flopped too much last season. Unless Hastings turns into a total disaster or an injury occurs, I think they are going to stick with him going forward. Now, I've made it pretty clear that I'm not really a Hastings believer at this point in time and I wasn't particularly impressed by his game against Cal, but I'm at least willing to see what he can do against FCS opponents before making any more major judgements on his play.
  • Week 1: UC Davis (0-0) @ Cal (0-0)
Another thing of note. we're still not able to or Cody isn't willing to run up tempo with this offense. When Dan first came to Davis up tempo was our bread and butter and now it's almost non-existent. Is it simply that Maier was able to run it and every QB since has not or has there been some major philosophical change?
  • Week 1: UC Davis (0-0) @ Cal (0-0)
I'm right there with you that it was a weird statement to make. The 2018 squad was a play or two away from what I think was likely a trip to the national championship game. Coming out and saying that this year's team is the best in Aggie history was more than a bold claim given the QB situation and really only sets up for disappointment. Not to mention the absolute meat grinder of a schedule we have this year.

Anyway, on to South Dakota State. Hopefully we can figure out some consistency on offense this week.
  • Week 1: UC Davis (0-0) @ Cal (0-0)
Agreed. This wasn't the worst game of all time in terms of our past FCS-FBS games, but definitely already puts a dent in the claim that this is going to be the best team in history of the program or whatever Hawk was claiming.
  • Week 1: UC Davis (0-0) @ Cal (0-0)
    Final

    Cal 34
    Davis 13

    Miles Hastings - 32/50 (64%), 242 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT
    Ulonzo Gilliam - 14 carries, 115 yards, 1 TD

    Defense - 415 yards allowed (268 passing, 117 rushing), 1 INT

Like I said earlier, I don't want to put too much stock into a matchup against a Pac 12 team, but take out the 60 yard run from Gilliam and the offense as a whole looks anemic. Hastings was lucky to end the game with only 2 interceptions. Giving up 400 yards of offense obviously isn't fantastic, but I thought the defense played admirably for the most part especially when they weren't getting much help from the offense to keep the game close. To be perfectly honest, we might have a tougher opponent in South Dakota State next week.
  • Week 1: UC Davis (0-0) @ Cal (0-0)
missed FG cherry on top for the offense
  • Week 1: UC Davis (0-0) @ Cal (0-0)
    and then promptly sacked
  • Week 1: UC Davis (0-0) @ Cal (0-0)
    4th and 17 conversion!
  • Week 1: UC Davis (0-0) @ Cal (0-0)
and we come out swinging with a pass for negative yards
  • Week 1: UC Davis (0-0) @ Cal (0-0)
TD Cal and that should be the ball game
