Beasley was injured for a significant amount of time and limited when he came back if I remember correctly. Perhaps he had off-season surgery and the recovery time is long enough that it would have caused him to miss too much of the 2023-24 season to be wothwhile ? That there seems to be nothing on the internet about him playing for some other school suggests to me he's weighing his options about coming back in 2024-25.

I suppose it would be possible in a situation in which the player is maybe 3rd or lower on the depth chart at some position in football and not a starter in both sports. It would be especially possible if they were say a kicker or punter because they can get plenty of practice and conditioning away from the football team.

I believe he is the first player from the Vaughn era (2012-2021) to make the majors. Tanner Murray also has a decent shot (made it to Triple-A this year and a career batting average above .300). If he does that would give Vaughn more former MLB alumni than his mentor Phil Swimley (Steve Brown). To be fair Swimley coached during the D-II era when few players were drafted. These days with analytics it matters a lot less what division you're in.

They're already doing a Big West Baseball tournament starting in 2025. Not that this is helpful to UCD because it's going to be the top 5 teams only. This will mean that baseball's season will start ending a week earlier without major improvement.

Yeah, I believe the move to D-I was largely motivated by wanting to keep football. I don't think it really had to do with other sports so much, that they were happy with basketball's achievements and the community + student support for those. Baseball was really not a top team in the CCAA so it didn't really surprise me that they weren't a winning team right away, moreso that they had 1 over-achieving year and mostly mediocre to awful seasons for the rest.

I think the NCAA is being cheap and lazy. They can get both seeds and help with their bracket structure at Home Depot.

Western Oregon has a road game scheduled against South Dakota State. They really have to travel for games now that several of their old regular opponents are gone like UCD, HSU (now CPH ?), and WWU. Even Simon Fraser has dropped their program. They were the team with the female kicker (not a Kathy Ireland look-alike if anyone was wondering).

The point I was attempting there (no football pun intended) was how arbitrary it all is. When you get past the top 10 in any ranking of teams you're pretty deep into participation trophy land. High schools typically rank students in graduating classes-what title does the 11th best GPA kid get-the irreleventorian ? Top 25 is irrelevant. UCD baseball beat a team in the top 25 this year and proceeded to lose their last 11 games-all against unranked teams not going to the playoffs. So what makes a team 18th as opposed to 19th ? UCD lost 1 fewer game than it won in football-why is it ranked at all ? Close losses to top teams are still losses. It's arbitrary.
