• Week 4: Weber State @ UC Davis
What teams have offices there? FB, MBB and ???
  • Tim Plough
My impression is that helped our end of the first half drive.
  • Edward's Family Athletics Center
    Expansive, lots of natural light.

    Your impressions?
  • Nathaniel Hackett rough start in Denver
Broncos win ugly 11-10, now 2-1. Russell Wilson leads a successful drive w under 4 minutes left. Aggie alum and DC Ejiro Evero's defense played well.

Broncos hired a Time Clock Assistant to help Hackett clean up clock management decisions.
  • Week 4: Weber State @ UC Davis
Some thought the drive to end the first half wasted some valuable time.

    Go Broncos! Sunday Night Football.

    Defensive battle - 7-5, Q3.
  • Week 4: Weber State @ UC Davis
We can still challenge for the Big West title!

What surprised me last year was how predictable our offense was, and that Hawk didn't instruct his offensive staff to mix things up. You can establish a run game without mimicking Ron Gould. That slowed the development of CH.

One more tough game, and then a well-timed Bye.
  • Week 4: Big Sky Schedule and Scores
Great move by Sac to supplement his salary. Transparent California is a few years behind in reporting, so he is likely well over 400k with no big time pressure, has his crew locked in, and Sac real estate a fraction of the Bay Area.

If we make 4 of 5 FGs, it's a different game.

Puzzling why we didn't have 2 strong plays at the one yard line. If we don't have a TE adept at blocking, can't we bring in a reserve OL as a designated TE? Then have UG or LL go over the right side, or even 2 TE set.

Overall the ball control passing (plan) worked great, but within that plan there have to be ways to keep them honest. Ulonzo going low for the one first down was beautiful.
  • Week 4: Big Sky Schedule and Scores
Transparent California last report had him at $410,000, plus bennies, and likely a higher quality of life with young children.
  • Week 4: Weber State @ UC Davis
They surely didn't plan on three turnovers.
  • Week 4: Weber State @ UC Davis
Sacramento Bee: "Hastings played perhaps his best game for the Aggies, completing 39 of 57 passes for 256 yards and no interceptions against the top intercepting team in the FCS (with 10 picks coming into Saturday’s game)."

Progress, but I believe staring down one receiver isn't wise. Looking off has to make DBs hesitate and think twice.
  • Tim Plough
Could he pitch in as an offensive consultant?

Hawk himself doesn't seem like an Xs and Os guy, unlike Foster or Sochor, but I could be mistaken.
  • Week 4: Weber State @ UC Davis
How many times did Ulonzo bail us out? 12, 14?

Reich had a good day punting.
  • Week 4: Big Sky Schedule and Scores
A deeper team w average QB play, few playmakers, and we lose UG this year.
  • Week 4: Weber State @ UC Davis
Preseason my gut said we needed Newman (few INTs, mobile), Babbs and UG. A new user sent me a DM weeks ago that said Newman didn't "fit in". ??? Seems he got 40% reps at Blue Gold game and did well. We're a deeper team that may go .500 w average QB play the next few years.

If we could make FGs we're at least 2-2. End of half play calling frustrating. Aggie fans booing rare. The fast tempo seemed to help, why not punch it in w UG at the one? Our whole offense seems to operate within 5 yards of the LOS. This feels like the Randy Williams era. Yearly scoring seems to show the impact of Keelan Doss.

Senior George Moreno leads the team in tackles?! Great job by Freshman DB Cotton. I don't get giving TT more WR attempts than studs Thorpe and Babbs.
  • Week 4: Weber State @ UC Davis
Speaking of Wildcat, I think we need to rethink TT - many of his plays are getting blown up this year.
  • Week 4: Weber State @ UC Davis
We quickly marched down the field 7, 10, 15 yards at a time. UG big. Got to the 1 with I think 10 seconds on the clock. Pass to the TE... at the one yard line, 3 seconds left. Then kicking unit entered, attempt partly blocked.
  • Week 4: Weber State @ UC Davis
Our OC has a thin resume... 3 years as a WR coach here, a GA at Ohio State, and one year at a high school. I believe he inherited the job when Plough left.

No expert here, but what baffled me last year were the predictable UG up the gut on 1st and 2nd down plays. Then we often faced 3rd and long against a defense teeing off.

Play calling seemed much better to start this year. Tonight was a puzzle, good and bad. Blown TOs. Hawk's gamble worked, but we can't move the ball, we don't seem to use the middle of the field and don't go long, so the defense is defending 10 yards? Thank goodness for Ulonzo.

Don't we have a backup FG kicker?
  • Week 4: Weber State @ UC Davis
Well, DC Combs and crew is keeping us in games. FWIW, I thought I saw Gomez after the Cal game... and he didn't appear to be in good shape.

    PPG allowed by our defense:

    2022 - 22.0
    2021 - 22.7 (DC Combs 1st yr, favorable schedule)
    2019 - 29.3
    2018 - 27.4
    2017 - 32.2 (Hawks 1st yr)
    2016 - 37.1
    2015 - 34.2
