• Week 1: UC Davis @ Idaho
My guess is the coaches have the QB narrowed down to 2 QBs at most and probably have a starter but are keeping quite to keep Idaho guessing.
  • Big Sky Scores
SUU had a 5 point lead and the ball on about their own 20 with a 4th and 1 with about 1 minute left in the game. Instead of kicking a FG and going up by 8 they went for it and did not convert. NAU was left with about 53 seconds and two timeouts and they march down the field and scores on the last play of the game for the win. Exciting finish.
  • ESPN*
How about former Big Sky member UND beating #3 SDSU 28-17 today. They also beat SIU 44-21 last week.
  • Start of season to be delayed
Cal Poly only had about 3 practices before pausing for 17 days. They had their first fully padded practice yesterday and would have had 2 uninterrupted weeks of practice to prepare for a Weber State team that would of had 5 weeks of practice and a game under their belt. Now they get at least 3 weeks of practice in before facing SUU.
  • 2021 schedule announced
The 2021 Big Sky schedules are the 2020 Big Sky schedule that were canceled. They did this to maintain the rotations of rivalry games. SUU leaves in 2022 and the Big Sky will released revised 2022 and 2023 Big Sky schedules in the coming months.
  • Poly on pause
I am not sure how they are/were practicing. I am just hoping they get back to it soon.
  • Poly on pause
My bet is it will happen, but during the first bye week (March 30).
  • 2021 Football Recruiting
Portland State signed 20 for the 2020 class. They did not sign any this last December (early signing period) and only sign 6 players for the 2021 class yesterday.

  • Montana, Montana State opt out of spring FCS championship season
Camp started Friday for both Davis and Poly. This is as quite as I can remember at the start of camp. Just keeping my fingers crossed we get all 6 games in. Looking forward to February 27 and April 10.
  • Montana, Montana State opt out of spring FCS championship season
I am hoping one of our new strengths is our 6’4” 220 QB Hunter Raquet (I think he has a good chance to beat out Hamler for the starting job).
  • Montana, Montana State opt out of spring FCS championship season
I was referring to 6’6” Lamson (8 starts mostly at left tackle) and 6’6” Richardson (11 starts at right tackle).

I am not saying you can not play tackle at 6’3”. What I am saying is most coaches are looking for longer bodies to play tackle at this level in a passing offense. They want longer arms to hold off pass rushers.
  • Montana, Montana State opt out of spring FCS championship season
Cal Poly is solid in the interior OL. I think going into camp Friday I believe the two players at the top of the depth chart at tackle are Garrett Weichman (6’4” 315 redshirt Junior) at right tackle and Charles Lincoln (6’4” 290 redshirt Freshman) at left tackle. I would bet the taller freshmen will get some reps in games this spring trying to get them ready for fall of ‘21.
  • Montana, Montana State opt out of spring FCS championship season
UC Davis starting tackles last year were 6’6” and have long arms to hold off edge rushers. Cal Poly starting tackles last season were 6’3”. Great run blockers who were not ask to pass block much. 6’3” is ok as an interior OL not so good when trying to pass block at the college level.

Cal Poly brought in 3 freshmen OL that are 6’5” to 6’6” this fall. They just signed a 6’7” tackle that will be on campus this fall.

Looking at the UC Davis roster the 5 freshman OL are
    6’4”, 6’5”, 6’5”, 6’6” and 5’11”. I would be very surprised if the 5’11” player plays tackle.
  • Montana, Montana State opt out of spring FCS championship season
Eaton’s TD was the play of the game against Cal Poly last season. Cal Poly had some built some momentum and play put an abrupt halt to it.
  • Montana, Montana State opt out of spring FCS championship season
The biggest question for Cal Poly this spring would be O-Line. Most were recruited to run the triple option. Not a lot of length to run a more traditional pass heavy offense.
  • Montana, Montana State opt out of spring FCS championship season
No triple option at Cal Poly anymore. Walsh retired and former EWU coach Beau Baldwin is now the head coach at Cal Poly. Cal Poly will run a Multiple offense. Standard offense will have one back, a TE and 3 WRs.

  • Tim Plough new OC at Boise State
Don’t feel too bad about losing 2 coaches. Montana State’s head coach Jeff Choate just took the Co-Defensive Coordinator/LB coach position at Texas. The coach that was the front runner to take his place had he taken the Boise State head coaching job, Kane Ioane, is rumored to be leaving for Boise State.
