• Napolitano selects Gary May as her choice for UCD Chancellor

CGS probably recruited him...sorry to beat a dead horse but I had too!>:)
  • May sits on Boards

They have offices around LA where students can go and take courses. They are not a satellite campus in the sense of an NYU in Dubai, but they do allow undergrads to do so.

If this "second" campus can offer specialized courses for poli sci, urban planning, civil engineering, econ majors, then I am all for it.

I would say only allow junior and seniors to take courses in Sacramento. In my opinion, it would help with the development of the student. They may even take it as a prep for life as a graduate student.

I'm not for a scenario where students go to school in Sacramento for all 4 years. That would not be something that I think we should do.

UCLA is all over Los Angeles, so is USC, University of Washington.

Stanford almost did it with New York. Cornell did it in New York.

Pretty much all major universities have satellite campuses in major cities.

I firmly believe it's something we should be doing. Isolationism is not good for an institution.
  • Napolitano selects Gary May as her choice for UCD Chancellor
I've always felt that we need a strong fundraiser and visionary.

I'm not sure Dr. Gary May has the ability to do that for us. He may have been a better hire as a Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor. It would have been nice to have had Hexter as our next Chancellor.

Again, Dr. May mat be the next Blue. I am a little disheartened that we had a great candidate in Hexter already. Could it be that because he was a Katehi hire he would always be on the short end of this search?

Katehi, for all the good she did, did mar the reputation of UC Davis.

By the way, we regressed in our Endowment: http://ais.ucdavis.edu/docs/gifts-documents/foundation1516.pdf

I hope he is Athletics friendly.

Just from seeing some of his videos he seems highly personable. He looks like a great catch for us.

I hope Hexter hangs around though.
  • NLI Signing Day 2017

If we get 6 wins this incoming season, I'd say Hawkins did a miracle job.

It just feels good having an Aggie at the helm.

Was this Hawkins or Gould's doing?
  • The Search for a New Chancellor

    If that's the case, good.
  • Cal Fires Dykes

That seems like a very likely scenario.
  • Sacramento Campus

I'm in Los Angeles, and previously worked at a private liberal arts college. I've traveled to different states because of work and have had to visit different campuses. This is mostly in the New York, Washington, Oregon, and California areas.

What I have observed is what I stated previously. Larger land grant universities do have a presence downtown. It seems to be a natural progression. I'm on the fence still about this issue. This is just my opinion. I am in no way affiliated with the Bee or the UC administration.
  • Sacramento Campus
I like our campus, and I loved, I mean absolutely loved the city of Davis.

When touring other major universities that are close to major metropolitan areas, I have noticed that they are starting to have a stronger presence in these metropolitan areas. I am a bit on the fence on this one.

Although I do see the concern over having undergraduates have courses in downtown Sacramento, how about just a few majors. Perhaps, political science or maybe a community and regional development major. They might benefit from being a quarter or two downtown. This may be a good thing if it happens. Perhaps there can be policy written that for your first two years you will only have classes on the Davis campus, but then your junior year you can choose to have 3-4 courses in Sacramento.

    Your thoughts?
  • MBB: UCSB (2-10) @ the Aggies (8-7)

I honestly think they are that bad.

I hope I am wrong though. Our lack of size worries me a bit.
